Yep. I could definitely see that.

Another rendering of Bowie HS's new parking garage. Ground-breaking June 7. Interesting they're having a ceremony, but I guess it marks the beginning of the entire project, not just the garage.

Not bad for a high school parking garage. Also, AISD holds ceremonies for nearly every project groundbreaking, no matter the scope.

https://www.virtualbx.com/constructi...outh-congress/

I had seen 8200 S Congress on the permit site before, but google misplaced the address, so I didn't think too much about it. Just looked again, and it's actually just north of my parents' property. That makes 2 apartment complexes going in with 576 units directly north of our property.

If a developer wants to buy ours, it'll have to be part of a group of purchases of surrounding parcels. Maybe another apartment complex or something.

Home2 Suites (4 floors - 120 bedrooms)
8417 South Congress (2.53 acres)

This is across the street from the apartments I just mentioned. I believe this is just a small portion of the property, which is owned by SOCO 35 Retail, Ltd.

In the above files from Big Red Dog, I believe they mentioned Ralph Ablanedo Dr being extended.

Ok, it makes sense now. This hotel is the one mentioned here in the far top right (NW) corner. It's part of the HEB complex. I was just a little surprised how far north it extended.

There's going to be a massive stretch of commercial properties with that new shopping center going in - From the northern end of "The Oaks at Slaughter" to the southern end of Southpark Meadows is over a mile and a half

Another day, another hotel.

I've noticed the lot at I35 & Teri Rd has been scraped clear and a building is going up just behind the existing retention pond. This is directly south of the Woodspring Suites that finished up a couple years ago. It's across Teri Rd from the newish Comfort Suites.

It'll be 2 buildings. And according to the SI form found here: https://abc.austintexas.gov/web/perm...rtyrsn=5470203

It'll be a La Quinta. I find this curious because there's an existing La Quinta at the SW corner of I35 & Ben White, directly south of the Aloft that's going in.

Will there be 2 LQs that close together? Or is the sale of the old LQ imminent? The old LQ is directly north of an old Furr's that's been empty for years. Squeezed between LQ and Aloft is an old IHOP that's now a taqueria. Maybe all 3 get bought by 1 entity and developed.

This intersection will continue to grow. It's close to the airport and backs up to the St. Elmo district.

Found something from 2017: https://www.bizjournals.com/austin/n...big-south.html

Quote:
Weir told me that the buyers of Dr. Covert’s former property will develop it as two franchised hotels. The first will be an upscale brand from Irving, Texas-based La Quinta Holdings Inc. (NYSE: LQ) that, at least for internal company use, has been dubbed "Del Sol," according to a La Quinta spokeswoman. A second limited service but as yet unidentified hotel will follow.

I like the design of the newer La Quinta hotels around the country. Should be nice looking.

This is from the Statesman's recent article about the Humming Bird project in SoCo. The project includes a one suite hotel with a secret entrance from the ground floor vinyl record store. OooKay.

I read that as a hotel with one suite, meaning room for one guest?

That's how I read it - unless they have a friend or a date.

I just pulled up the approved site plan, and there are a whopping total of three hotel rooms. The Statesman was apparently just referring to the one with the "secret" entrance. It's an interesting project, Here's the site plan:

This got a height bump. It's 5 floors now.

I thought this was already filed, but a site plan was filed today for the Schlotsky site at 218 S. Lamar.

The applicant is proposing construction of High -rise office building with ground floor retail along with associated improvements.

By the way, when they say 'high rise' I think they mean that it's at least 75 feet. From what I remember reading, 75 feet is what AFD considers to be a high rise.
