It seems like the rail bridge guys never take a day off, they were out there again so I couldn't get close up shots I keep wanting to get. Its starting to look like they are going to build most of the new bridge under the old one. The pier caps are all in place and it looked like they were going to lift the first side piece. I imagine they'll stop working for a bit in the middle of the week, so I'll walk over again then.

Last week I tried a few image processing programs that all did the same sort of thing. I ended up deciding to use Darktable which among other things lets you selectively brighten shaded areas in an image. It makes a huge difference when an image has both very bright and dark areas. I ended up using it to modify all the images from today due to the shading. The program has a pretty steep learning curve, the easiest way to figure it out is to watch a bunch of youtube videos.

I went over to the bridge today as I was curious what they did yesterday. It turns out they didn't lift anything yesterday, but they were removing the bridge deck today so I'm glad I didn't miss that. The two excavators have train wheels between their tracks so they can roll on the rails.

They certainly moved fast. I expected when I went back in the afternoon they'd still be removing the deck, but they were already onto installing the new pieces. It looked like they could do 1 piece every 10 minutes judging from what I saw between when I got there and left.

Took a video and let it run while they were installing a piece since I noticed the crane was moving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRTFXvvNRPY

Went back for the 3rd time just before 5 and they had all the segments in place. It was windy and starting to get dark so many of the pictures had some blur. There are new sections of rail, so they may keep working tonight until the line is open again.

They finished the rail bridge, just cleanup left. I was hoping the wind would die down but it didn't so it was a bit cold out there.

I accidentally bumped a power line damaging a prop, but the drone kept flying. It doesn't take much of a hit to break a prop off entirely.

This one here is for Ebeneezer Scrooge
Merry Christmas you’ll be finding a bottle of Scrooge under your tree and I’m looking forward for the new year. You’ve dropped the sweetest hangover.

That Bridge is good for another hundred years. Pretty sure they will demolish to old trestle supports so that it does not create an ice dam.

Try not to knock out my power while my turkey is in the oven!

Merry Christmas!

I was over in Westerra the other day, still no sign of work at Costco not even bringing in rebar for piles. After the freezing rain all the cleared land in the Costco spot and for the Westerra expansion is glazed like a skating rink. Construction anywhere in the city is going to be treacherously slippery for a while due to ice.

Since its the slow time of year I'm going to see if I can sell my current drone to put my savings over the top to upgrade to a Mini 5 Pro which cost about 3x my current one. After using the controller with phone holder for over a year, I'm sold on paying extra for the controller with large integrated screen (also extra programmable buttons so you don't have to take a hand off a control stick to use the touch screen). I'm definitely getting the DJI Care package for it to cover crash replacement. Between birds buzzing the drone and losing signal there's always a chance of losing the drone even when careful.

, Regina has provided a $6.8 million subsidy to Costco to ensure the retailer receives property tax revenue from the store and to promote development in the Westerra neighborhood. This decision was made after Costco backed out of an earlier agreement to build in Regina and instead negotiated with the Global Transportation Hub, which operates autonomously and functions like a municipality. The funds will be paid back through property taxes over the next seven to eight years.
Maybe Regina is considering pulling funding for this

I cannot find any info on that one. It does look very expensive. You'd figure an MP would show up with a news crew for a ground breaking (it's Scheer's riding, probably DGAF, or busy blackmailing CPC MPs to keep them from crossing the floor).
