North of Selkirk, Manitoba, there's this random bridge that's just MASSIVELY out of proportion to the surrounding area/need. It's ALMOST enough to cross from Halifax to Dartmouth, and it's just this bridge over a river in the middle of nowhere. But it's HUGE AND COOL. And you get up on it, stop, take a few pictures... gorgeous.

For anyone who enjoys layered urban areas / elevated structures there is no where better than Japan. Elevated freeways crossing over top of elevated metro lines with elevated Bullet trains above them! haha.
^Shanghai is getting the multilayered awesomeness as well. One of my favorite sights when visiting Tokyo (as well as Shanghai and to a lesser extent, Seoul).

Ah, Howard Pawley's bridge to nowhere. It is part of Selkirk's ring road. It does have a nice view. I once came to a complete stop and enjoyed the view for about one minute. Until a car came up from behind me.

470 meters, which is the second longest cable-stayed span in the western hemisphere. Also it is now the widest long-span bridge on Earth at 65 meters wide, the Sydney harbour bridge was the previous record holder at 49 meters.

What they plan to do with the old bridge? Keeping it or destroying it ?
If you look at the 1st pic you can see that there's a section of the new bridge that can't be completed until the approach of the old bridge is demolished.

That is the plan. Not all of the new lanes are open on the new bridge yet because the approaches for the new bridge cannot be completed until the old one is removed.
I understand it has to go because of the logistics of the site but I think its a bit of a shame. While it doesn't compare to the new bridge, which is absolutely spectacular, the old one wasn't too shabby either(appearance wise, structurally its probably a different story). It has somewhat of a historical appeal to it since long span arch bridges have basically gone the way of the dinosaur.
