I was completely disoriented by the floorplate cut-outs at first.
I think the ONNI building at Cambie & Marine in Vnacouver also had similar openings.

Pretty sad experience compared to other universities, especially compared to those out east. There's not even a proper bar on top of the mountain that's open right now, just a single Biercraft.

Excellent photos though.

It really is a shame how averse to mixed use buildings most of Metro Van seems to be. SFU now has the density to be a vibrant community, but it can't be because there's so few commercial spaces for building character/community/vibrancy. No spaces for locals to hang out really other than the chains on campus.

That's not the campus though - that's the private residential area next to the campus.
- like Wesbrook Village at UBC (16th and Wesbrook).

interesting.

i always assumed everything up at SFU was geared towards the university/students. didn't realize there was non-school stuff going on up there. i only went up there once, about a decade ago so cant say i know much about it.

i dont know if i agree with it though. i feel like that whole area should be geared towards student life, etc.

There's apparently a few storefronts among the condos. Looks like Wesbrook Village, where there's one or two centralized amenities and everything else is residential-only.

Like Wesbrook Village is to UBC, it's SFU's cash cow.

there is a street with a Nesters, BC Liquor Store, A&W, Tim Hortons, and a few other restaurants and such. It's actually quite busy with students and then you hit the bus loop and campus. The campus itself has grown a lot in recent years.

There is a proposal sign on the one corner lot right next to the bus loop and campus that is proposing a 17-storey building over a retail podium.

.....
It was posted a while back.

That project's gone quiet for quite while now.

It seemed to have slowed down (not stalled) right around when the pandemic and lockdowns were impacting everything, and we haven't had any progress from it since then.

In fact it seems like Telford on the Walk project (the one currently in construction behind Metroplace) was proposed and went through the application process right around the same time, and as we speak is currently all the way up several floors into the tower section in its construction process.

I'd love to see it coming back to life again some time soon.

Westland will take your name on a registration form - but sales haven't actually started, so there's no start, or possible completion date. They've got one 64 unit building underway on Granville in Vancouver, and they're trying to sell a tall tower in Surrey. This one may be a while.

Yeah, that one is rising quickly with eight or more floors up already. First floor even has (dark) glass going up.

I hope the Telford project will see a small revision as I don't think the bottom looks that good. It would also look amazing with 60 floors. The shorter Tower 2 needs more work as well. Fingers crossed, as this is a very central location.

Actually 2 in Surrey - though I'm not sure the 67 storey one is anywhere close to starting sales or presales yet. It's still at the proposal stage.

They also have another proposal in Metrotown in the Maywood area on Willingdon, a bit farther down the road (south) from Modello.

Not really sure what the progress is on that one either.

They seem to have quite a bit on their plate, so yeah, you're probably right that this one might be a while before we see any progress on it.

I'd love to see some more refinement to the design too.
It's probably going to be a signature tower for the area and likely the tallest of Beresford row.

It would be great if the podium level got some more (re-)design love.

It’s very different as SFU does not have any special municipal designation its just a school in the city of Burnaby. Where as UBC is a special place and does not have to follow Vancouver zoning etc. It and the Musquim lands if I recall have the RCMP and different utility providers
