[QUOTE=user2468;7693587]Part 2 of Thursday's DTLA visit.

The Harris Building (Cal State LA) looks great! That area around the soon-to-be Proper Hotel is going to be so nice with all of those historically significant brick buildings being repurposed. A renovated Herald Examiner building will only enhance the neighborhood. I just keep wondering how long will it take for all of Broadway to redevelop (4th Street to 8th Street). One building at a time I suppose.

[QUOTE=Mojeda101;7693633]To be fair Metropolis took a LONG time when they were just a pit and it start much earlier than either project. I mean they're STILL working on their podium in the back. Podiums and parking levels typically take much longer to build. Once they reach the actual tower portion it shoots up much faster since the floorplan is consistent to the next floor and it has a much smaller footprint. Expect 820 and Oceanwide to shoot up just like Circa and Metropolis after the 8th floor.

I really like the lighting of Broadway Palace. I can't wait to see the blade signs lit up along with the 10 story portions lights. Imagine how well lit South Broadway will be with the blade signs and facade lighting from May Co to compliment it.

Why are the operators of the Orpheum theater or ACE Hotel (aka United Artists) not contributing to the re-lighting of Broadway?

I just wish it was bigger. It seems too small relative to the building.

I did see a photo that was taken later last night and the Orpheum blade sign was lit up in that photo. Not sure if the UA sign has been restored.

It does, doesn't it? And the signs depicted in the renderings which are to be mounted on the corners of the roof also seemed out of scale

not as good as the other recent updates, but here are some from earlier today

this level of height is more attractive in smaller lots like this than the behemoths

a few more on my flickr if you are so inclined.

i also took note of the recent comment showing love to the historic 1/2 story buildings, which add richness to the streetscape and integrate well with the pedestrian experience. i agree but as enjoyed almost every building i thought why can't they keep the facades and add 5 to 6 story setback/additions (for smaller lots) and towers set back for the larger lots. They would have to outlaw new curb cuts tho, otherwise it would destroy walkability

I believe they opened up the lot for parking. It was quite obviously temporary but a couple of forumers threw a tantrum over it due to their confirmation bias of "nothing gets built in LA".

I think that one will actually happen. All of the single story buildings are empty and should be demoed this spring.

^Honestly, call me a blind optimist, but we have had a great track record for not having projects get canceled on us (in the last few years the only two I know that were hard core cancelled are now coming back in different forms). I really think most of these buildings will happen, the only ones I doubt are Shy's and the Janga Tower.

Last night was Night on Broadway so all the theaters with functioning lights turned them on. Although I wish they were better maintained because nearly all the theaters have burned out lights.

In regards to your point Boffin, I don't think it's so much the projects getting 'canceled' rather having them break ground on their targeted date. Alexan was aiming for October of last year. 4th & Hill was aiming for early 2016, 4th & Broadway immediately after the demo of the existing structure last year. So would we classify those as canceled? On hold? Delayed?

I want everything built, but when I see it passing their deadline by several months to years I start to question if they're still serious projects. Although 888 S Hope was delayed over a year and started up so I'm going to try and keep an open mind and give the benefit of the doubt.

Please remind me of which project you are referring? I was looking on the first page and see no mention of a 700 footer in this vicinity

Man NOB was PACKED last night.

I was meeting up with friends there and made the foolish decision to drive and pay $6 for parking. Come to find out my friends ended up taking uber. And here I was originally debating on taking Gold and Purple/Red in the first place lol

On the bright side I was able to give them a ride back and spare them from waiting for another uber trip... on a cold night ...at 12:30am... at a pub near skid row haha

Wow, I've been waiting for the AMP Lofts for literal years, since I just joined the site. Happy to see this one start.
