I guess they're just making it up as they go along?

Not keen on the red leaves.
If they are going for red, the vertical stripes on 1107 Seymour look better - less of the background shows through.

They should try white vertical stripes.

I love the red/burgandy with the grey/beige, the colours go great together.

I hope they use the leaves. It's a but busy but the rest of the tower is so boring that it could use a fussy detail like that.

*sigh*

Why couldn't they just go with the original yellow. Keep it simple as the red leaves feel like an after-thought.

I don't think the red leaves have enough density of colour to register from a distance.
Or maybe the red isn't bright enough to "pop".

It almost looks like the metal mesh going up the Woodwards Tower. I'm still holding out hope it could look cool.

What an ugly wall of a building.

Awful colour choice for a city thats grey and raining 7 months of the year.

Seems to me like the design inspiration was taken from the brown cinderblock wall in above photo.

Awesome that this gets by the City but 1500 West Georgia and others get punished.

Copy/paste this into 90% of Vancouver projects.

^ I tend to agree. I moved to Chicago last fall and while I fully admit that there's a lot of crap going up here, at least there's variety. Be it in materials, spandrel, glass colour, building shapes etc.
If you consider the standout projects in Vancouver, they all tend to be from outside architects (Jameson House, Vancouver House, Alberni Place). What is it with local architects and the copy/paste formula? Laziness? Even Toronto has significantly more variety.

The glass leaves here on the balcony looks like that orange construction mesh from a distance. Another fail unfortunately. Still love you YVR but on the architecture front, you're not exactly up there.

In fairness you are in arguably the architectural capital of the world, not exactly a fair comparison!

And as for Toronto, you must have visited a different city that I live in, because aside from the legacy banking towers everything here is a box. 8,000 sf box for residential, 25,000 sf box for commercial. Ctrl-C, Crtl-V.

Vancouver has a lot to improve on, but it looks like the tides are finally turning. Sure there are still some bland ones, but there are 5 or 6 very different looking towers being proposed/developed, certainly far more avant garde than the city has seen in a long time, if ever.

Have they installed a different white balcony glass (white stripe at the slab and maybe some frit above that)?
That looks different than was there before.

they've changed the railings a few times... if you see on the left side of the picture though there is a normal balcony rail and clear glass that looks normal but great. I'm hoping they go with that and drop all the "trying to be different" looks...

Thanks.
I'd prefer something to make the building stand out, but they shouldn't do a different treatment on one side versus the other side.

I took these pics today from the Granville Bridge. It didn't even occur to me as I was doing it that there was no crane on top. You can see it going down the right side, though.

At least it looks like the mechanical penthouse is nicely hidden.

They're really taking their time making a decision on this balcony glass.

Could anyone tell me what is redeeming about this tower other than its slenderness?

To me, it's a grey spandrel slab tower with a boring concrete elevator core facing false creek. I like it less than most of the existing projects in Yaletown!

The Charleson is a little better with its glassier facade and somewhat interesting angles.
