"Starchitect" is exciting news for this site...definitely deserves it for such a prominent building on our skyline. And the building roof vs building height means there might be a big sculptural component at the top. I doubt it'll simply be a spire like the Fairmont. The setback angles should mean a very interesting shape for this building. I bet we'll get something at least as interesting as that Gensler proposal with the multiple angled terraces.
The height will be great for that area to break up the 400' plateau.

I had a feeling that it was so I ran with it lol. Still all of this speculating is driving me (as I'm sure everyone else) nuts. As far as height, I'm very glad it will be taller than it's surrounding neighbours.
Maybe someone read this forum and saw the complaints about how blocky and flat that area of DT has become in terms of height. It will be in a prominent location, IMO probably the most important along the waterfront. It's placement deserves to be iconic. While I would have loved that 900 footer beauty, it does make more sense to have a building closer in scale to surrounding buildings in that location due to how closely clustered that they are. It will be the new focal point between the W Hotel and the Independent.
And for what it's worth, I'm extremely glad that we have the Austonian. There is no other building like it in DT, it's not a square and it set the bar for the next generation of highrises which we are finally seeing taking shape. It is an iconic tower.
