...and wasn't that AMOA tower by Hines a Pelli design?

I would've taken that splinter over the Austonian any day.

What if there's an alternate version of Austin with all the 86'd projects built and gleaming in the sky ??!!

Man, I don't know... Austonian at least doesn't look like it needs a 2x4 to prop it standing...

I think I LUV SAT's post was a joke, lol.

"Starchitect" is exciting news for this site...definitely deserves it for such a prominent building on our skyline. And the building roof vs building height means there might be a big sculptural component at the top. I doubt it'll simply be a spire like the Fairmont. The setback angles should mean a very interesting shape for this building. I bet we'll get something at least as interesting as that Gensler proposal with the multiple angled terraces.

The height will be great for that area to break up the 400' plateau.

I think, at least with me, that this will be the most anticipated and agonizing wait for a rendering since the Independent.

If it's truly a starchitect who has worked on an Austin project but not built here, my hope is Herzog & de Meuron.

I'm just going to hope its Nouvel or Ingles. They are my two favorite working architects.

Ingles "fits" if you consider the sports project on the East side as dead.

Also, hopefully they bring a Delta Hub with them, because I should dream big

I had a feeling that it was so I ran with it lol. Still all of this speculating is driving me (as I'm sure everyone else) nuts. As far as height, I'm very glad it will be taller than it's surrounding neighbours.

Maybe someone read this forum and saw the complaints about how blocky and flat that area of DT has become in terms of height. It will be in a prominent location, IMO probably the most important along the waterfront. It's placement deserves to be iconic. While I would have loved that 900 footer beauty, it does make more sense to have a building closer in scale to surrounding buildings in that location due to how closely clustered that they are. It will be the new focal point between the W Hotel and the Independent.

And for what it's worth, I'm extremely glad that we have the Austonian. There is no other building like it in DT, it's not a square and it set the bar for the next generation of highrises which we are finally seeing taking shape. It is an iconic tower.

A second site plan just for the excavation was filed today. Having two site plans speeds up construction. Other projects that had two site plans (one for demo/site prep and another for the tower) include Block 71 and Third + Shoal.

Sooooo I may or may not have seen a render on this recently. There is a starchitect involved... That's all that can be shared for now. Let's just say though that if the render turns out accurate, IMO everyone will be well pleased with the result.
