Wasn't aware this facility was completed and now open. Nice boost to the area and Winnipeg in general. Haven't been in the area for some time.

New $35-million CN Rail training facility opens in Winnipeg

Up to 400 workers ranging from locomotive engineers to rail car mechanics will train each week at the 100,000-square-foot facility at 550 Pandora Ave. East in Transcona.

And that means millions Of dollars per year in spinoff economic benefits for the local economy, CN president and CEO Claude Mongeau told a luncheon crowd.

"In short, it's like adding a major business convention to Winnipeg each week, all year round," he added.

The new Winnipeg facility is one of two new centralized training centres CN has opened this year. The other one is in Chicago.

CN chose Winnipeg as the site for its Canadian training facility because of it's central location and the fact it's a key hub for the railway's North American operations.

This has made the Canad Inns Tcona and Windsor Park happy as they have booked up those facilities long term.

Good to here. A major boost for the area.
400 visitors a week, retail, restaurants, shopping, entertainment. Major influx of capital for buisness in TC.

Long term..Trainees will head back to all corners of Canada and put TC on the map, I hope.

I am pretty sure I saw a bunch of guys with neon green CN bags boarding a chartered bus at the Radisson Downtown yesterday morning.

Maybe there is some spill over to the downtown hotels too.

I saw a motorcoach with CN logos on it downtown, and several other unmarked buses that have the same operator's name on it which might also be shuttling employees around. Looks like this place is going to have a considerable impact... it'll probably also give the airport a little bump given that most of these people will be coming from great distances.

Really, staying downtown at the Radisson? Maybe they have a national contract where they're required to stay at certain hotels. Large corporations tend to have those types of things. Travel agents, rental car agents, preferred providers, etc. for a discounted price.

It's a pretty cool looking building... definitely better than the renderings that were released. It'll probably make the short list of nominees for this year's Transcona Grand Prix de Architecture. About 100,000 square feet, so fairly substantial.

Radisson in downtown Winnipeg is a CanadInns property just flying a banner more likely to appeal to business travellers.

I wonder if there will be any spill over to the HSC CanadInns as I heard they are running far under their projected occupancy rates.
