I agree with you future mayor. Dolan is dreaming if he thinks his theater will be the go to theater if salt lake builds one as well. Sandy doesn't have history, and like has been said earlier nobody wants to have fine dining at home town buffet and upscale window shopping at wal mart before they go see a broadway show. Sandy doesn't have history to inspire the soul. Salt lake is the only logical place for a theater.

I love reading the comments on both the Tribune and Deseret News websites when they have articles about the Sandy theater.

I think to date, I have only read 3 comments that were stating Sandy should have a theater of this size. The rest of the comments are all stating how stupid it would be in Sandy and that downtown SLC is the best place for it.

I honestly think that more people would go downtown then to Sandy to see any production. The larger the production, the more likely people are to go downtown as opposed to Sandy.

DC/Domus is beginning construction and accepting reservations for a new condo project near downtown SLC. The location for the build is :

225 Orchard Pl
Salt Lake City, UT 84101

We will be building 14 MODERN units at at around 1500 Square Feet with underground parking for each unit. All units have Exterior decks, mountain views, locked inside storage, workout-spa access, and a roof top garden.

This will be a MODERN PROJECT.
Every effort will be made to reduce energy use and keep the building GREEN and affordable. We are seeking approval for an 8 story building possibly higher.

If you are interested please reply with any questions.
We will have documents and Plans to email out by the end of the month.

No rendering, but 8 or more floors of condos, rooftop gardens, Green building, underground parking. very cool! My question is where is this 225 Orchard Pl ? I've lived DT for 2 years now and have never even heard of that street.

There are a lot of old streets downtown that are nothing more than industrial waste and parking lots. It's sad, because you know at one point there was something there -- probably something nice. Orchard Pl is located off of 200 West, between 500 S and 600 S.

I agree, at least in the foreseeable future. If both Sandy and Salt Lake had theatres of a 2500 seat capacity, Sandy would need to focus more on 'family-centric' style shows. I think the 'Real Downtown' will have infinately more appeal to adults, looking for a special night out on the town. Also, of course you will have a lot of major conventions, which a new theatre downtown will draw on. Then, you also have City Creek next door, which will easily be one of the most phenomenal lifestyle centers in the country, "particularly in a heart of a downtown setting." Sandy would function more as a location to take the kids along. Not that downtown couldn't also be child friendly. Other than Saturday Matinee's, I just don't see Mom's and Dad's taking their kids in- tow to a fancy restaurant after an evening show. I think Downtown is on the right track, and that they will get a major venue whatever Sandy does. I think Sandy will be taking a big risk at this time in building a large theatre. Perhaps, in ten years when this new Sandy multi-purpose center actually reaches a built-out completion. CCC is for real and will be a huge draw for downtown. CCC will come on line about the same time as a new theatre, if started soon. Downtown Salt Lake has far more advantages and appeal to a major Broadway style venue. Infact, almost too many advantages to list.

Salt Lake City is working on a deal to buy the 100-year-old Utah Theater and revamp it into a 2,500-seat performing arts center.

City officials also are considering a handful of other possible locations for a Broadway-style theater within a planned arts district for the two-block area bordered by 100 South, State Street, 200 South and West Temple. The Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance previously announced plans to transform the area into an epicenter for arts, culture and entertainment.

Sandy wants to build a 2,500-plus-seat theater as part of an office, condominium and retail complex near Sandy City Hall. The city plans to hire a theater operator this summer, with 2011 as the target date for its opening.

Urbabboy I love your new design for the block behind the salt palace. I ecspecially like that you saved the old apartment building on the corner of 2nd south and 3rd west and that you broke up the oversized block.

Thanks jedikermit and Callisphile. I am going to get in touch with the ethnic diversity community council, I think that is what it's called, anyway, I believe they are based in the Buddhist Temple down on Japan Town Street (100 S.). I want to show them this plan, which I also think is brilliant.

Seriously, as I was designing it, and as it started coming together, I thought: I'm a genius.

It's the best design for that block that I've come up with so far!, and I've been thinking about it for at least several years. I showed it to one of my professors, who was the planning director for Salt Lake City for a while, and he said it was superb and that I should show it to the council I mentioned previously. I would love to see the previously displaced Japanese community have something similar to what they, and we (a once unappreciative community) had.

"Earlier this week, Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan said the city was "getting good responses" to its request for bids. Today, he did not return calls seeking comment about the lack of offers."

They were getting good responses to bids, but somehow no one put in one single bid. I smell a fat rat lier, and his name is Tom Dolan. They did this same damn thing with the RSL Fiaso Stadium. Oh, it will be a good investment, and it wont cost taxpayers anything, then they rape our money anyways.

Go to hell Tom Dolan, and take your stupid lies with you.

I cant wait until a new mayor gets in Sandy, and uncovers that the city doesnt have funds to do shit, because former Mayor Dolan spent every last penny the city had. Then let the hunt for the fat a$$ begin, and may his death be a slow painful one.
