Consider this paragraph I found from www.wikipedia.com when I searched "Downtown Los Angeles":
Realizing he's completely capable of defending himself, DowntownCharlieBrown was being critical of the article and making a sarcastic crack at the expense of Fred Sands, whom the article quoted:

"Sands said he was seriously considering buying apartment buildings in the downtown warehouse district three years ago. He said he changed his mind after seeing "an attractive young woman pushing an infant in a stroller, with winos all around her.""

He was not being pessimistic in any way, as he presented positive statistics regarding downtown (which you have just reiterated) in the same post you were trying to call him on. I'm sorry if you cannot comprehend that.

L.A. to Dubai: 16 hours to enjoy lauded service

taheny.com

By Peter Pae, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
8:10 PM PDT, March 13, 2008
This fall, getting halfway around the world will be a lot easier, if you think 16 hours on a plane is easy.

Emirates Airlines will start nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Sept. 1, the carrier said Thursday. Emirates will use Boeing Co.'s new 777-200LR, which has the longest range of any jetliner.

"L.A. represents Emirates' commitment to the American market," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, the airline's chief executive and the uncle of the ruler of Dubai. (The ruling family has made courting Hollywood a key part of promoting tourism. Its local film festival has featured some top names in U.S. cinema.)

The flight to Dubai, about 8,000 miles from L.A., would be the first nonstop from the West Coast to the Persian Gulf. It will cross over the Arctic Circle.

Several international carriers have recently started or expanded service at LAX, helping the airport fend off competition from San Francisco.

"International is where the growth is going to be for the next two or three years," said Paul Haney, LAX's deputy executive director.

Emirates, the world's fastest-growing airline, often tops lists of fliers' favorites. On the LAX-Dubai route each coach seat will be equipped with an audiovisual system stocked with 1,700 hours of entertainment, including the biggest Beatles playlist in the air.

Bob Covington, a technology manager for photo agency Getty Images, said he once purposely flew to New York rather than take a direct flight to Germany just so he could get on an Emirates flight.

"They are at the top of the market," said Covington, a Mid-Wilshire district resident who flies often for his job. Last year's flight was "like stepping back in time when flying was elegant and fun. If they open up a gateway to Europe, it's all over for a lot" of other airlines.

Speaking of the Times, this is one of the more positive articles. Now I know that this may or may not be relevant to development in Los Angeles, but I'm hoping that it bridges some interest between those who have money to burn and those who are sitting on the fence right now. My question is this: Do you think, now that L. A. has enticed The Emirates with Hollywood, now that we've won over most competition with our regional punk to the north, San Francisco, knowing how they came in and practically saved The Grand project and knowing that sometimes foreign investment can be very significant to the development and economy of a city, do you think that Dubai interests can change the face of development in this town?

In my opinion....perhaps....how much? That remains to be seen, I think.

Comprehension isn't correlated to it; i'm just not always good at seeing sarcasm when I see it.

Colemonkee, are you going to move Sante Fe to "Approved" category?

City Council Approves Arts District's One Santa Fe
Friday, March 14, 2008, by Dakota

View From A Loft has the latest news and renderings re: One Santa Fe, that contentious 1,570-foot length mixed-used development slated for the Arts District. Last fall, some locals decried the proposed rental building on Santa Fe Avenue, calling it too big for the area; the developer claimed the project was misunderstood. It was approved by the city council last week. Once just a glow worm, Santa Fe is seen above--that's 2nd Street looking south on Santa Fe, according to the blog.

Here is a link to the article, along with the renderings:

It's crazy how the article spouts so many positive facts about DT, yet has such a negative tone. When you read through the comments posted by the readers, there are many DT hating/suburban sprawl loving angelenos out there and this is the kind of article they have been waiting for. The sampling of comments shows how prevalent the "tract house loving" mindset is in our region. I did notice that as the later comments come in, the opinion starts to shift in favor of DT.

Yeah, you crack me up when I see you answering someones sarcastic remark. But that's ok. BTW, it was very nice of you to let Echo know that 3 Cal Plaza is dead.

I was driving on the 101 from Hollywood to DT and needed to get gas. I exited on Temple and decided to enter DT via Temple (which I hadn't done before). As you come over the crest and DT comes into view, you're facing the Cathedral and the new performing arts HS. I wish I had my camera, because I have to say, the view is very impressive.

Now that we know the box at the top of the tower has a function, I looked at it closer. It's bigger than I thought. I'm not sure it's adequate to be a "performance space", but it appears to be the size of a classroom.

It invoked a feeling of such desperation to me. I hope it can live up to the expectations. Thanks for the link and welcome to the forum.

On my way to the Pac-10 Pep Rally at the Water Court, I walked by the old Embassy Hotel, and saw about 6-10 workers carrying out wood pieces to a large dumpster.

I know the Gansevoort Hotel plans is no more, is something else going in there now?

Good photos, Westsidelife......i'm hoping that by the time Grand Avenue breaks ground, the lower eastern panhandle part of the Ritz hotel will be topped out, and then the rest of the tower can proceed.

But by the time that happens, Grand Avenue still may not have begun.

Unhappy

I hope LA Central breaks ground this year. It's my favorite project and an important addition to South Park's future.
