22C with a humidex of 25 and a mix of sun and clouds. It completely clouded late in the afternoon so it was a kind of dark evening. Did not pass the 20C mark until 2PM. Unacceptable for June. Wore shorts and t-shirt and was cold.

The cold feeling, the dry skin, the viruses, the seasonal depression. It's no coincidence Canada has twice the suicide rate of Italy (or southern Europe in general).

Seeing how the average high for June 2nd in Montreal is 21.7 it seems to me that a high of 22 is acceptable…

Sometimes your drama is endearing, but sometimes it stretches a little too far. Average low is also 10.6 for today so not teaching 20 until 2pm also doesn’t seem abnormal.

I actually find it kind of sad that you can’t enjoy a perfectly seasonal day in early June with a mix of Sun and cloud.

Still overcast with a very low ceiling, not quite fog. Windows are open though because the long range forecast now has us reaching at least 10C every day. But never 15 And yes, that’s good news lol.

Past two days have been rough. There was that winter chill in the air. It wasn’t a normal 5C. It smelled like winter. So thankful the long weekend was so good or I think this week would’ve broken me a bit.

That got dark at the end

The dry skin isn’t really an issue here - you basically never need an iron, the wrinkles disappear after a few minutes outside. I think our lack of spring is what would really get to people here. Winters aren’t that bad, and are usually pretty stormy/exciting for someone like Tancredi. But spring is just… nothing. Lost time. A peppering of good days amongst a painfully slow climb to a bearable temperature.

It's really just spring that's soul crushing. The period from April to June is extremely maddening. I agree about winter, it's not that bad unless you get smacked with a stormageddon-type event which is extremely rare. Summer is fine, if not too short, but when the weather is nice it's very pleasant. Unfortunately being so close to the Labrador Current means easterly winds can ruin a summer day pretty quickly, so it's not uncommon to have a random 12 degree day in the middle of July. And fall is exceptional.

Currently cloudy, with some sunny breaks, and 7 degrees at 10am. Might make it up to 10 today if the sun breaks. Should be back to a better weather pattern tomorrow.

Newfoundland weather is like Maritime weather, except on steroids.

We have seasonal lag like you, but by early May things are starting to turn the corner. Our best season (like yours) is the fall, especially September and the first three weeks of October.

NB of course is a bit of a Maritime outlier since we have a quasi-continental climate in a large portion of the province.

Yeah. If I was the type of person who could be a snowbird (it’s too transient and too long away from my city/life in one stretch for me), I’d definitely leave February 1 and return July 1 And if I was one of the ones who only go for two months, I’d choose February and March.

Worked in Yakutsk 2 times back in the 80-90saround Glasnost. It had some of the greatest temp swings. -45C to +35or 40. (Projects were the Sakha Village just outside of Yakutst and the other was the Air terminal). Both done to Northern Canada Standards, Its what the local Governor wanted to showcase). Clark Builder had the contracts. The terrain was a lot like Norther Alberta.

It's not all about the temperature sometimes. Like I said, it was below 20C for basically all day. If there is one thing that is important to me is constant warmth.

Yesterday vs today is the perfect example of that...

Yesterday we were freezing with sub 20C temperatures until 2PM.
Today, I woke up to a nice mild temperature. By 10AM, it was already above 20C. High ended at 24C which is only 2C warmer than yesterday but the difference was huge.

Also sub 20C weather in June-July-August-early September is unacceptable no matter what your averages are. It's not OK in Montreal, not OK in Kamloops and not OK in Iqaluit.

And yet Iqaluit probably gets no more than 2-3 days per year where the temperature surpasses 20C. I don't think you would survive there Nicko. To be honest though, neither could I.

So, today I copied the gardeners here and tried to make a larger improvement

I’m keeping the Japanese knotweed along the fence with my uphill neighbour as I like it there. But for the front of the deck it just looks strange. Spent the whole day digging up its roots, which went all the way to bedrock. I’m sure it’ll keep coming back but I’ll stay on top of it.





And I went with two hydrangeas instead. If they like this spot, they should grow to be about four feet wide so I only needed two.





The rocks/border around the mulch above is the foundation of the house that was originally here centuries ago, so although it’s not pretty, I love it and am leaving it as is.

This 20 or 21 degree high weather, albeit sunny, is nowhere near peak summer but it does make for comfortable walks. If you can't go swimming then go for a walk.

Thursday evening at Sixteen Mile Creek mouth in Oakville and this afternoon at Lasalle Marina/Park in Burlington. Distant views of TO and The Hammer.









At Lasalle I was wondering what the hell happened to the boats. Apparently, their liability insurance expired and they couldn't find a suitable replacement at reasonable cost. City says two more weeks. No idea why it's been so hard. I mean, Lake O did flood twice in three or four years not too long ago, submerging docks. Might have something to do with that.













Gotta love this place. Passing by the mansions around North Shore Blvd, pass the golf club, pass the woods, pass the park/pool/pavillion, drive down the hill to the Marina and bam, your view is industrial Hamilton (including from the backyards of the lake shore mansions). May not be pretty, but it is always interesting. Though the small skyline and the skyway off in the distance ain't eyesores, and neither is the blue water when it's not winter.

Like discussed a few weeks ago, I never see west end of Lake O turn colours like in Town guy's pics.
