A station there won't happen. The track geometry is only designed for a station there because that was the original location for what is now Patterson.

Didn't Burnaby want both the Smith/Patterson stations and the compromise from the ALRT people was in between the two. And eventually ended up with just Patterson?

And FWIW some comment on Facebook on a question about BC Tel not wanting a station near the Boot.

No - the lack of public land, grades and problematic road access pushed the station to Patterson in the final design phase. ... or at least that is what I recall reading in some old Burnaby planning reports.

Here's how it was reported in March 1982 in the Province.

"Social Credit MLA Jack Davis, head of the Rapid Transit 86 committee which is overseeing the job, faces some other difficulties, as well. In Vancouver, there's the question of whether city council will win its battle to have the line put underground, instead of above, for six blocks on Commercial Drive. And a fight for another station, at Clark Drive, isn't over yet.

In Burnaby, there have been some major problems associated with station location and alignment, but Davis says he expects they will be smoothed out. His committee, which includes Allan Emmott, Burnaby alderman and Greater Vancouver Regional District chairman, has agreed to remove a proposed station from inside Central Park in Burnaby and replace it with two stations, one at either end of the park. However, Davis' committee is willing at this this time to build only one of the two stations - at the eastern end of the park on Patterson Street. It wants to put the second station, at the western end of the park near the B.C. Tel headquarters, on hold until the line is in operation."
