Let's start sorting through these and crowd source the updating of the first post.

Anyone know the status of these?

LOS ANGELES | Olympic Tower | 740 FT | 57 FLOORS
LOS ANGELES | Olympia Towers | 43, 53 & 65 FLOORS
LOS ANGELES | The BLOC | 710 FT | 53 FLOORS
LOS ANGELES | 708 Cloverdale | 530 FT | 45 FLOORS

If you can provide the below information that would be great as well.

Function: Office or Residential or Mixed-Used
Height:
Floors:
Units (if residential):
Architect:
Status: Under Construction, Approved, Proposed, On Hold

AFAIK BLOC is the only one that has any chance at all, I think the first two (Olympia & Olympic) died years ago.

Note sure about Cloverdale.

Is this (1105 South Olive Street) what you were referring to as Mack?

Just added a bunch of the more high profile projects to the first post. Let me know if there's any more you can think of. I think we can try to limit it to projects that are 100 meters (328 ft) or taller. If we go below that limit the list would get too long and cumbersome to manage.

I thought the Olympia project developers bought the plot of Land, maybe they're looking to sell if they don't want to go through with the project.

I think any Onni project is fair game. They have a decent track record.

Partial ULA Repeal Ballot Measure in the works by City Council, being voted on Tuesday: https://laist.com/news/housing-homelessn...on-tax-reform-city-council-ballot-motion

Ballot measure would reform the 2022 ULA Mansion Tax as follows: (1) Permanent exemption from tax for all new multifamily residential, mixed-used, commercial/industrial properties built/renovated within 15 years of their last occupancy certificate. (2) Exemption for Palisades victims (3) Clarifying language and technical fixes for ULA revenue expenditures.

There's a strong likelihood this goes through. CM Nithya Raman authored this measure, with CM Marqueece Harris-Dawson having signed on to it. They just need 6 more votes in support, which they are likely to get. Attend the city council meeting tomorrow if you want to see this go through!

That is great news. I'll bet few if any ULA voters had any idea that the "mansion tax" would also cover multi-family apartment and condo developments.

How would the 15 year thing affect new construction? Does that mean developers should be less hesitant in actual building?

Yea, wasn't there another 600 footer recently proposed downtown though? (Not Mitsui but a third one).

Theoretically, yes, this should make developers more inclined to build now, since most will sell in a couple years once it's stabilized, so there's now more room for profit or if shit hits the fan they can get out of the deal without paying an extra 5% tax. There's still a lot of other barriers though that make it tough to build, but this is a big one.

They rejected voting on it today, which means it won't make the June primary ballot because tomorrow is the deadline to qualify. However, it can and might still be approved in time to qualify for the big November election.

Spectrum News/Francisco 'Paco' Ramos-Moreno

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined local leaders at Exposition Park on Monday to announce nearly $100 million in proposed funding to execute critical renovations, infrastructure improvements, public safety upgrades and other projects ahead of upcoming major events including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2028 Olympics.

The historic investment comes as Exposition Park prepares to welcome the world with the upcoming major events, as well as the planned openings of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art and the Endeavor Space Shuttle exhibit at the California Science Center.

The funding would come from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed state budget for fiscal year 2026-27, which allocates $96.5 million for critical improvements and maintenance to Exposition Park. An additional $1 million in federal funding was secured by Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove.

https://www.gov.ca.gov/2026/01/26/govern...illion-expansion-in-southern-california/

Not skyscraper related, but Anduril, a defense technology company based in Costa Mesa, announced a $1 billion investment in a new R&D/manufacturing complex in Long Beach last week, expected to create 5,500 jobs in the area. Very exciting to see the boom in the aerospace/defense industries in LA right now at a time when entertainment industry here is in a freefall. Interestingly, its a reversal of the trends in the 90s, when aerospace collapsed while entertainment thrived.

I think the entertainment thing is temporary. Those other states that had tax credits are slowly pulling out and giving up.
Its just a matter of time before they just move on and LA will benefit from their losing.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently. Long Beach is poised for success.

More and more is happening on soundstages now and those can be built anywhere. So I don't necessarily share this optimism, but we'll see.
