At any rate. Hilton is placing 2 low end properties in 2 blocks. Sad infill for Downtown properties. . At least TRU will be an improvement over "THE G".
I thought the Pizza Hut site was going to be the approach to the building. But this Land Status Determination confirms that the site is just the retail buildings next to the Pizza Hut. I find it hard to believe that the abandoned Pizza Hut will remain while the hotel is built right up against it.

The north and south elevations are half the width of the east and west so it does appear to be a single lot.

The only Hut I ever saw with "half a Hut".

my buddies and I all considered the Hut to be to expensive, so we hit up Gumbies and Pizza Classics. Large Pizzas for like $5.

Ah! you are seeing the same thing! I thought it was strange as well! especially when you see where windows are and the idea of "firewalls" etc. We shall see!

I would love for the Home 2 Suites lot to follow the curvature of the road/intersection. A flatiron appearance coming down Guadalupe would be awesome.

I'll look at it on the bright side - it'll be really cool to see the tall-ish, narrow buildings all together once that Pizza Hut is developed

From the DC presentation. Apparently "not final" rendering.

I like the green. Not much else going for the design but hotel rooms are hotel rooms.

I think that’s a really great design for an affordable chain, especially compared to the Cambrias facade. But I guess we will just have to wait for the final one lol

The density bonus passed the PC yesterday. It's on the 06/05 CC meeting agenda. There was an opposition speaker from the nearby Cambridge tower complaining about a traffic increase. I've watched a lot of PC and CC meetings with people speaking against downtown projects, and it's typically a resident of a neighboring building whose views would be affected the new tower.

Looks like most/all businesses are permanently closed.

This finally got CC approval for the ZC today. Site plan approval should now be happening soon.

While I don't disagree, I'm grateful for inexpensive hotels in prime locations (or near them). That allows my family to travel and stay in walkable areas. Glass half full take: This is a great location for families to stay next to UT for a myriad of events without having to worry about driving to campus - and they'll spend money in the area beyond that.

All said, this corner is worthy of some statement piece, sure - especially with that NW angle toward Guadalupe. It's an entrance to DT from UT opportunity, for sure, and I'm doubtful that Home 2 Suites will be all that exciting architecturally. Unfortunately, most cities have more boring buildings than exciting ones, and owners of property have a lot of say in how the property is used, even with design commission influence.
