That's not really the point... I'm not saying I wish we had GUCCI stores here, but it's indicative of the market and consumer in Ottawa. Those brands aren't here because they don't get the sales/demand they need. Same can be applied to high-end architecture and "luxury" buildings.

I agree completely, and I actually don't think it is a bad thing....except for when it comes to nice towers and architecture. I love the fact that everyone making 6 figures in Calgary drives a $100k+ car whereas some of the wealthiest people I know in Ottawa drive Volvos, Subarus, and Tesla Model 3's. We clearly have a different mindset where "showing off" isn't always the priority.

I think people need to realize that the housing product being delivered in Ottawa is a direct result and reflection of the consumer...

There are very wealthy people in Ottawa, but as community in general.. we as consumers are cheap, which I realize isn't a nice word, but it's the truth.

I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of xc90’s I see in Ottawa wealthier neighborhoods.

Peerhaps thrifty or frugal are better words.I tend to think of myself as frugal.

Does that mean that a lack of excptional archetecture in Ottawa is all my fault?

Sorry, not a fan.

I dont think its that people in Ottawa are cheap i think its that the wealthy people in Ottawa arent the luxury condo tower type, they're the mansion in rockcliffe or the expensive glebe singe family house type. Ottawa doesnt really have an exciting downtown where luxury condo tower life would be exciting for many people.

Also for all the super cool tower proposal in Toronto, I guarantee there is also 20x more boring "ottawa" style tower being proposed.

Not much to work with yet, but here's it roughly slotted into the skyline:

Love the background with the other proposed big tower (Albert Towers and Gladstone Towers). Like I said, this might not be perfect - but considering the lot of land right beside it, that's going to be one dense as heck area.

Nice work on the water reflection!

but yeah... this building in its current form leaves so much to be desired. This is some Kowloon Hong Kong junk that would look fine buried in a sea of rental tenements.

Stevie Wonder would have his reservations about this in its current form. What on gods green earth is wrong with this city?

I leave Ottawa for one week and Claridge is already shitting all over the place. That is the ugliest building over 150 metres I have ever seen proposed or built in Canada and it's a an embarrassment to our city of it gets built. This would be the first thing you see coming in from the airport. A giant drab beacon of mediocrity. 'Welcome to Ottawa, Don't expect much!'.

Soooooo ugly... so much for the "Icon" next door - perhaps a rebrand to "Inferior"

I am going to wait on better renderings before i spout off any declarations of how much it will ruin the city. Claridge has learned their lesson from the icon and given themselves harder to fuck up designs for their new higer end developments and its really the materials that will make or break anything they put out.
ottawa does not have the transnational elite or foreign money to see several showcase investment builds go up at the same time; this has very little to do with ottawans' being frugal and preferring volvos because you cant throw a rock in the nice neighbourhoods of this city without hitting a new audi or genesis suv.

195m tall including the mechanical penthouse

6 levels of above ground parking, most of the ground floor is parking garage access and an additional 6 underground levels. So the podium is a parking garage with a couple of small retail spaces.

Is a 13 floor parking garage a new record for Ottawa?
