that picture kills me.
Tally Ho and Record World. Man, we've lost some great businesses over the years.
You know, to this very day, I've never been to Tally Ho's new location on Main West.
Same with the Espresso Cafe that used to be in Lister and is now in Downtown Dundas.
I would love businesses like them back downtown.

Tally Ho needs to come back downtown I think... though it would kind of be direct competition for Maxim's down the street.

Why did downtown do away with the awesome red bricked sidewalks? They look much better than the current ones.

Funny that you mention it RTH, Dundas is actually home to a couple of ex-Lister tenants: Tait Gibson Optical, Pioneer Cleaners (not technically in Lister, but the building beside), Espresso place. I think there's another one as well but I can't recall. It would be an awesome twist of irony of any of them came back to the refurbished building.

I remember Record World fondly. It was where I first saw the video for the Pogues' "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah." It was a Saturday afternoon. What more could you want?

Incidentally, the Wedding Present's "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" is good, too, even if it came a few years later and ripped off the title.

this building is now 'topped out' and even has the little piece on the top in the middle, where the name/date will go.

Yep, saw it yesterday. I'll get pictures once the top is complete.

Looks great so far

I'm still curious to see what retail it will be. I'm hoping for a cafe of some sort or even a small family restaurant.

I hope the building beside it cleans up the upper floor as it looks really dirty. That would help compliment this project alot.

The building looks quite nice, but every time I see that ratty strip club that is beside it, I cannot help but shake my head. The dancers are nasty for the most part and they attract a nasty clientele. I wish that someone would take the bull by the horns and turn that place into a classy dancing establishment.

I am not sure that I would be the right man for the job, nor am I sure if there would be any money in it.

one of my fantasies [that i can discuss here] is that someone buys the capitol and rebuilds the theatre. that would rule.

so, we've got a theatre without a facade [tiv]; a facade without a theatre [capitol]; and a fully functional theatre without a tennant [century]. weird, wild stuff.

anyway, buttinsky's has gotta go. just not sure what sort of establishment would replace it.

I agree mostly because the thing I notice is that the strip club is in an absolutely beautiful building. Obviously much better uses could be had.

Glad to hear the former Capitol lobby is up for sale. A nice cafe or restaurant could be right at home there.

Sweet to hear about the old Capitol! I've always loved that entry-way! What's behind it? Could someone possibly add an addition for another The Movie Palace-type theater? That'd be neat!

I don't have as much a problem w/ Fox's Den/Maxim's as I do with Show World. That place is disgusting and full of seedy characters -- IT needs to go!

An empty lot (parking).
The building is for sale. There is a sign on it.

^^ Ohhh it's the lot across from 77 and beside Trinity Landing.
I doubt they'd be able to do anything w/ that back lot
Too bad... they could build a theatre and add an entrance to King William aswell as the grand entry way of the old Capitol.

Hmm... I wonder who'll be buying up this property. I know it wont sit vacant.. the frontage is just too beautiful!
