Gatt-in-no is how I mangle it. French people say "ga-tee-no".

I think I have asked this before, but is Hull, Quebec pronounced Hull or Ool?

Nicely done, a little grittier than the Capital Region I saw couple weeks ago.

I spent 3 days in Gatineau for work and only stepped foot in Ottawa when landing and leaving the airport. I was pleasantly surprised with Hull and Gatineau. Friendly, clean and green. Nice looking women too. From what they tell me, the cost of living in Gatineau is a bargain for the region.

Well, in Quebec, "should be" is a relative term. I mean, a province/etat where KFC is PFK, you never know. I have been to Quebec, but not enough times to know how people pronounce English words, so I just default to how my stupid French teacher would say things.

For myself, if the name is of English origin, and if English is your first language, you should say it in English. If I say "ull" instead of "Hull", my wife (who is québécoise) laughs at me. French place names, I make the effort to try to say the name in french if I'm speaking to a francophone (eg. Morrial (montreal)), but if I'm talking to you I'd say "Muntreal".

there's no "should be" about pronouncing things, especially if French isn't your mother tongue. Most people understand what you mean - you won't offend anyone.

I love this picture, it almost looks like the Peace Tower was photochopped

Also, for non-Ottawa folks, we are missing soooooo many pics that show how beautiful this city really is.

You mean the touristy canal and parliament hill pics? Sure, I've taken some of those - but it gets tiresome to see the same old angles. I'm more of a fan of street views and people.. but with a familiar landmark or two thrown in so you can orient yourself. it makes you forget where you are, if just for a moment.

and yeah, that pic does look photoshopped, but it isn't... just upped the f-stop to flatten her out.

thanks again everyone.

GREAT Photos, as always.

Yeah, the bullshit lifestyle. Looks like an ad for LAVALIFE, or some other online dating service.

Not those per se, I like your style.

Next time, try to take some from the Rockcliffe side, I'm sure you can come up with a nice picture story book

Whatever you do don't take any pics of the Supreme Court Building......I did so a few weeks ago, and some security people got VERY excited. I didn't realize it was such a big thing. They were all fine in the end but there were an awful lot of questions. Shame the way the world is going....even Canada.
