That won't happen for some time. They added a jumbotron last year, underwent major turf renovations a few years ago, and are planning additions to the rider office and a new lounge. As well both endzones were altered this year. It won't be happening anytime soon. We certainly don't have the money to do so. But replacing Taylor Field would really be nice. And put it right in downtown too. It's close as it is, but right in the middle would be better.

I am glad they were able to reuse the old Derrick building, it was a blight when it was empty for so many years. The inexplicable Greek revival columns and off-centre windows could have been thought out a little better though.

Well that strip is where the majority of nightclubs are, in Regina. They are making improvements, and lofts have really taken off in that area. I think once they have more of these warehouses converted they will start to green the area more.

As for the window on the old Derrick building, I do not think it is actually off centre like that. When I drove by one day, it looked normal. Not sure about that though.

As for the dome. People get over it!

^I think that's the viewpoint of the picture. Foreshortening against the column makes it look off. I wasn't really impressed with it when I saw it, the yellow and red and columns are just so out of place. I grew up in Regina and the building it replaced wasn't that hideous, had some nice 50s/60s charm. It is great it's being used though.

Lack of greenspace in the warehouse area could be improved with a couple of half-block parks in addition to some trees on some streets.

The bigger issue is the disconnectedness to downtown. It's really close, but the scar of the railline running straight between Dewdney Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive really is a deterrant to quality foot traffic. People drive from downtown to the pubs on Dewdney, when you can throw rocks at them from downtown. I can never forgive the city for not doing rail relocation in the 70s when they had budget for it and didn't do it. Imagine the railline blown out, an east-west bike path for commuters, a six block urban park and the new MacKenzie Art Gallery linking downtown with the warehouse area.

Oh, yeah, I said I'd look for another photo of SaskPower. I couldn't find the one I was looking for. Maybe I never took it. Sad that this is all I could find to try and show the columns. I lived there how many years.



The columns are sort of sculpted organic I-beams if that makes sense, but more rounded.

Hmm, I wasn't aware of the rail relocation. It would be nice to see that happen, but I highly doubt it will. Can't see a project like that being undertaken anytime soon.

What's even crazier than that...Is Victoria (CRD) population of 360,000 people, doesn't have an outdoor stadium!!!

There is a drive in one of our subbies, to build a 12,500 seater. Which is desprately needed for the south island. Naniamo to Vic. (driving time 1.5 hours between) is around 600,000.

And no outdoor stadium.

I had heard of this project before. A lot of things I like in there. Adding a lot of culture and art to the downtown core. Entertainment facilities, education,resedential, and retail all in one. As well, two buildings that aren't doing much could be used. And last but not least, a downtown grocery store! I hope this goes through.

It was planned in the 1970s. A long time ago. There's not a chance in hell it would happen now and never will. It was a lost opportunity.

When it comes to professional sports Saskatchewan tends to act as a single market, so having a 200 mln stadium with a general population base of around 900 000 isn't so insane. After all there is only one stadium of this size in the province already, just like there is only one NHL sized hockey facility as well, in Saskatoon.

A new Wingate Hotel is being proposed for the downtown area. It is a 7 storey building, worth $13 million. This will also include a restaurant. The lot currently has the old legion on it, which is currently vacant. Plans are to tear that down and build the new hotel there. This lot is right across the street from the Casino, and to the right will be the new STC headquarters.

Around 12,000 at current capacity for hockey seeting. If they ever finished the seating I believe it would be close to 16,000



Close, but no cigar to an NHL size rink.... AHL maybe....
