Yes, I've noticed that too, more and more pedestrians around, every time i pass through it seems to increase.

First phase of Port Moody redevelopment with 2,000 homes moves forward

Quote:
Nearly a year and a half after receiving Port Moody City Council’s approval, Edgar Development is proceeding with its significant redevelopment of Woodland Park, now rebranded as Portwood.

The 24-acre site of Portwood is located at 1142 Cecile Drive and 300 Angela Drive — in the general vicinity west of the major intersection of Barnet Highway and St. Johns Street.

There will be 20 buildings between six storeys and 19 storeys, containing about 2,000 homes, including 466 secured purpose-built rental homes — 328 below-market units for BC Housing and 138 market units — and about 1,600 condominium homes...

Still not sure how the hell they're getting up and down the hill without a gondola.

I guess people will use the existing roads (Cecile and Clarke primarily) and paths, plus the new road that will be built through Highview Place?

The site itself is reasonably flat, with the exception of Phase 5.

Which kind of makes them part of Burnaby more than Port Moody - it's just as easy to drive to Burquitlam.

"19,000 sq ft of retail/restaurant uses including a grocery store"

That's gotta be a small-assed grocery store. Even at 20,000sq for a grocery store alone that's "urban" in Vancouver.

19k of commercial is way too little for 4k new people. I really thought they were making tweaks to this master plan.

This "first phase" Umbra would be what is labeled as The Gardens on that diagram.

could be nestors size, they are a couple in Surrey, not too big but good when you need a quick item or two and then do the weekly shop elsewhere.

Well, Coquitlam, not Burnaby, but your point stands, Burquitlam would be the main shopping hub for this development, certainly. Even on transit, despite the 180 going the long way around from this development to Burquitlam, Burquitlam is still the biggest shopping area that is a one seat trip away by transit.

Probably not a high enough traffic location to support a bigger store, and Burquitlam Safeway isn't too far away, as are the supermarkets at Lougheed Town Centre - Korean plus new T&T.

To be fair the Skytrain station itself is only 200m from Burnaby, and everything west of North Road in Burquitlam is also Burnaby.

True, there is the 'Bur' in Burquitlam for a reason, but to be unfair, as soon as you cross into Burnaby, there is nothing but single family homes on big lots, so they are not exactly contributing much to Burquitlam as a walkable, urban neighbourhood.

Coquitlam presses for more affordable housing in new City Centre proposal

Quote:

Tenants at Coquitlam's River's Inlet were told last month that they'll have to look for new homes to make way for a property redevelopment.

On Monday (April 3), Ledingham McAllister revealed its plans to turn the eight-acre site — located at 1145 Inlet St. — from 113 townhouses and duplexes to 1,113 units in a 25-storey tower, plus eight mid-rise buildings nearby...

It's not been fully approved yet, it's still in the "Active Application" stage at this point. (Active Application = Project is under review.) I imagine it will still take a few years before we see any action on the site.

The CIBC branch located there is closing in June and it will be moving to the City of Lougheed which will have a new location opening in June.

The Burquitlam Plaza Banking Centre will be closing on June 8, 2023 at 3:00pm and merging with transit 06910 Lougheed Town Centre Banking Centre

People actually do walk up and down the cliffside to get to the Barnet Hwy bus-stop (it's about 15 minutes).

This development was the original reason Port Moody proposed adding a new Millennium Line Station at around Douglas St (rejected for being too costly to justify at current proposed development levels).

That would be necessary first before considering any Gondola- it's 'only' about 500m to Barnet Hwy as the crow flies.
