Exclusive: TD Ameritrade to close on land deal for new Southlake regional campus
Candace Carlisle
October 5, 2015

Quote:
The new campus would consolidate TD Ameritrade's regional operations from two existing buildings in Fort Worth to a single corporate campus, Kim Hillyer, a spokeswoman for the Nebraska-based online brokerage firm, told the Dallas Business Journal.
Quote:
TD Ameritrade is under contract to buy 78 acres of land owned by an affiliate of the Wilks family adjacent to Solana Business Park and plans to close on the deal by the end of the month. In 2013, the West Texas billionaire brothers Farris and Dan Wilks bought the property from foreclosure.

The company has yet to hire an architect and the details of the facility have yet to be conceived, Hillyer said. Either way, TD Ameritrade will likely have a LEED-certified facility with plenty of green space for its workers to enjoy.

Highland Park ISD releases first look of buildings that’d replace historic elementary schools
Melissa Repko
October 7, 2015

Quote:
Highland Park ISD released renderings today of three new buildings that would replace historic Park Cities elementary schools if a $361 million bond measure passes Nov. 3.
Quote:
The three schools — Bradfield Elementary, University Park Elementary and Hyer Elementary — date back to the 1920s and 1940s. They would be demolished and rebuilt as two-story schools to make room for more students. Some parents and preservationists are calling for the old buildings to be saved or incorporated into the new structure.
Quote:
Jonathan Aldis, a project director for Stantec, which is designing the new schools, said that each school includes subtle references to the old buildings. For example, some parts of the old buildings, such as 1920s decorative stonework, could be re-used. “The intent is to convey to people that your history is not lost, that there are elements of the buildings that can be reincorporated into the current building without replicating a 1928 elementary school and still honor that look and that aesthetic that the community’s come to expect,” Aldis said.

So that's the building that has all the racists up in arms about "poor kids coming to school in Highland Park"?

I had thought HP had changed for the better, but some traditions die hard.

^ There's no validity to the story other than the rumor running and some news outlets giving into sensationalized reporting. The person that made those comments was interviewed by the local media here and his accusations have no footing to stand on. So for the rumor mill you could say some things never change....

Hillwood begins multimillion-dollar expansion of AllianceTexas' crown jewel

Quote:
The multi-year construction project will extend two runways and a taxiway to 11,000 feet at the north end of the airport, which will give Fort Worth Alliance Airport greater flight capability and enable long-haul flights to take off fully fueled in any weather condition.
Quote:
Fort Worth Alliance Airport, a public-private partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration, City of Fort Worth and Hillwood Properties, received $21.1 million from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program for the runway extension project. The Texas Department of Transportation and other local sources also contributed additional funds for the extension project.

^ That's good. I was wondering if they were going to bridge over them, which would require depressing them more...likely proving even more expensive. I obviously didn't read the whole article.

Quote:
Looking for the next big development opportunity, KDC is already working on marquee projects. But, now the iconic developer is working on an infill TOD in Deep Ellum.
Quote:
Bill tells us he’s always looking for the next corridor of development opportunities. Right now, many signs point to urban infill, he says. KDC is partnering with Westdale Properties to develop The Epic mixed-use project in Deep Ellum.
Quote:
The Epic (rendered here) TOD is right on the DART line and will include residential, office and a hotel. The Epic will have 250k SF of office and a hotel in a historic 100-year-old brick four-story building. The office will be right on Good Lattimer and Elm Street. Bill says more details are forthcoming, but he can’t release too much info just yet.

Nice! It's high time the skyline started to creep east over the 75. Hopefully this spurs some development west of the 75 as well, and connects the office buildings downtown to that area.

I love this new project. Great infill.
This plus the new apartment tower down the street will really bookend the neighborhood well.

2000 Ross (TCC lot)

Initial renderings have come out for this project, and while not huge on height, it is about the best infill for this huge surface lot in the Arts District.

Hotel, luxury living planned for Dallas Arts District
Marie Saavedra
October 27, 2015

Quote:
DALLAS — Developer Craig Hall gave WFAA a first look at the second phase of his Hall Arts development Tuesday, which will bring a new hotel and high-end living to the Dallas Arts District.
Quote:
"Phase Two is going to be on the corner by Flora," said Hall. "High end, a very exclusive residential building. Then behind that, going toward Ross, toward downtown, will be a hotel."

The 11-story boutique hotel's name is still under wraps, but Hall said it will sit above two floors of public space, 231 rooms and 7,000 square feet of meeting space. There is also space for restaurants.

The hotel will share some services with the Hall Arts Residences, which will sit 25 stories high, made up of 44 homes. Hall has reserved his spot on the 6th floor, and — like all potential buyers — he has to wait until it's built.
