I live in Kilarney and I do notice the planes more. Not because of the noise but because my 1yo has this need to point out ever plane and helicopter, and sometimes bird, in the sky.

Three brand new WestJet 737-800's inbound in the coming weeks, one of which has the funky registration of C-FONK. That will take the total number of -800's to 39, and 9 delivered for the year with a tenth on order. Last year's fleet plan shows that 5 of this year's 10 frames were converted from originally ordered -700.

There are rumours that one of these 4 planes might have a special livery for the Toronto Blue Jays, with whom a new deal was signed earlier this year extending partnership to 2019.

Back in the day (mid 90s) when AC was taking their CRJ-100s, their registration came up C-FUKN and C-FUKM; far too many giggles in the hangar led to the operations people approaching Transport Canada to request new registrations.

Oddly today the registrations are in use with private or small operators; one is registered to a Cessna 206 and the other to a home built airplane.

Yes inquisitive why children are awesome. Back 3 years ago I made the mistake of answering every single question my then 2 year old had about airplanes, in terms she could understand. So now when we jet off for family vacation, she has to see the truck giving the airplane a big drink (fuel truck), plus the truck that takes away the poop and pee (lav truck). For extra embarrassment , she wants to know if the lav truck blow back is blue or brown, cause I told her once blue is good brown is bad.

Finally, KLM is her favourite airplane because it's big and blue and easy to identify. She gets disappointed with Westjet 737s cause there is too many of them. Air Canada is the airplane she takes to go see Aunite in Ottawa.

YEG is still open?

YYC's expansion is 2 gates short of YEG's total number of usable bridges. YEG will be doing quite a few tows this winter, as they did last year; as it is at night all gates are often occupied with a handful that RON on pads or get towed back. It ain't YYC tight, but they need the ones they've got.

But in all seriousness, the answer depends on a few questions being answered first.

- is the new route China-YEG-USA?
- is the new route at commercially viable times for YEG arrival and departure?
- is the new route an attempt at getting around China's one route one airline policy?
- is the route dependant upon graft paid by YEG to get the route started? If so what are the chances the route lasts beyond the inducement period?

Reportedly WS has gotten the registration for the first of their 767's finalized, so hopefully first flight from YYC will be the 16th as has been reported.

I had flown a Cessna 150 - ( back in the day - mid 70's ) the registration was:
C-FHCK - now - imagine if the H were a U
That would have been a real conversation piece.

Tuffy's quotes and mentions of a new YEG route appear to me to suggest an Aeromexico flight rather than YEG-China. I don't see the reasons to do YEG-China over YYC-China all things being equal. In saying this I am analyzing from a dispassionate third party, all the reasons for going into YEG also apply to YYC only with larger market associated with YYC.

Without a compelling market reason to chose YEG over YYC, there must be another rason, perhaps operational for making the choice. Lets use the example of MIA-YEG-HKG. Perhaps CX (or whomever wants the route) wants to clear US CBP in Canada and therefore YYC is too restricted or not interested wile YEG has the available capacity. YYC US CBP (preclearance) is very full until after 11:30am and there is another mini bump at about 2-3pm. The Customs Officers have been on shift since 5am and are not available to process large increase in pax. However YEG has US CBP capacity in the late morning.

However if the reasoning is not related to market or operational purposes, then I have to go with cash or marketting inducement by the Airports and/or other economic development groups.

In the mindset of a YYC homer I'd be bloody pissed if border staffing was the reason we missed out on a flight and YEG got it (especially if it is a new tail for spotters too). I'd assume the airport authority would be just as upset.

I think it's also fair to say that since YEG got McDavid they get nothing else for the remainder of the 2015/16 season.

The WS 763 got her Canadian registration papers today, now registered as C-FOGJ. However no Certificate of Airworthiness has been issued by Transport Canada. So the airplane still remains grounded at YYC.
