I know we've all been laughing about it. But, seriously, the cheerios smatterings look downright stupid compared to the other offerings. And I know we all read - repeatedly - about how tasteful the building wrappings would be.

So what gives? Is there anyone we can contact (mayor, vanoc, etc) to express our displeasure over this jukebox of random crap concept and have any hope of changing their minds. It really looks tacky. And in this case, I think the concept drawing says enough. I don't think I need to see the vision "fully realized" to pass judgment .

No, it's not the most critical of matters. But I do have to say I'm a bit disappointed after reading these articles in which the artistic merits angle was pushed so hard.

Heck, with that reasoning, maybe one of the "dazzling" downtown light displays will end up just being several dozen strands of Christmas lights plugged in and tossed over the side of a bridge . . . with advertisements for Kodak film tied to the end to blow in the breeze .

Not to hijack the thread, but really, I think this is a large part of why so many people don't like the idea of a multitiude of oversize advertising going in on Robson, Granville, Sears Building, etc. The promises of it being tasteful at the beginning just dissipate once the planning permission is granted, and a big enough advertiser comes along who thinks their product is the next Mona Lisa.

I see this happen all over the place. The next worse thing is naming a beautiful building something tacky - "The Honey Nut Cheerios Centre" or some such other complete rubbish.

I totally agree. I love it.

Construction is moving fairly quickly now. Looks like they've completed the 5th floor.

Pics from this morning:

Is there any plans for an office component to this building? I seem to remember there was but with the economy the way it has been has anything changed?

Thanks for the picture.

The tower will have office space up to the height of the Hotel Georgia and then condos the for the balance.

The big question for me is whether the tower will feature a window wall or curtain wall glazing system.

They launched their new website today:
http://www.residencesatgeorgia.com

Check out some of the amenity images. Geez. I am jealous

Renderings of the outstanding amenities at the Private Residences at Hotel Georgia are featured on the new website. The latest images include the theatre, billiards room, cognac room and meeting room. Also in the amenities section; highlights of new elements in Hotel Georgia itself, including Hawksworth Restaurant and the luxurious Spa at Hotel Georgia.
And a new rendering of the terrace...

I can't wait until you can't see the side of the Met anymore. That building does not have an attractive side profile.
