Nice pic ckkelley! the sweetest part about those pics is that the Georgia is going to be the tallest tower by a significant amount out of all the towers in those photos!

Much as the Canadian spirit is to be lauded, the gigantic flag looks extremely tacky. But it makes Sears look classier by comparison, so that's good.

bahahahahha!!!!

I KNEW IT!

Just a few days ago, I suggested that this building should be wrapped with a banner with construction going on.

Well I think it's great. Bold is beautiful. Bold is something that Vancouver doesn't do much, so stop complaining about it and maybe we'll see some more interesting things happen around here.

I like it. I think that it is awesomely bold and makes a great statement. They should wrap the sears building in it, I say!

Geez! What's not to like? It's a big old maple leaf! Canada has one of the friendliest flags on the globe. I don't think people are gonna feel oppressed going by it .

I'm impressed that it's centered on the corner. Very classy look, like the leaf is blowing.

And I love that it's all one giant image. It's a nice juxtaposition next to the multiple banners on the Bay.

Can't wait to see more going up around the city.

Wow, talk about tacky. How did city hall approve this? Doesn't everything have to be a shade of blue/green

I was at seymour and georgia and felt pretty excited if not patriotic looking west, seeing the banners on the Hudson Bay building and the big Canadian Flag wrap in the distance.

I'm surprised some of you are calling it tacky when at the same time some of the posters here have before lamented the lack of any grand ornamentation in the downtown core. This will pump up our athletes this February for certain. Can't beat that hometown advantage.

I'm with the non-tacky crowd. Sure, it wouldn't exactly be a classy permanent addition but it's appropriately patriotic and festive considering what's upcoming and ads a nice bit of colour to the landscape during our most dull grey months.

Anywho, here are some pics I snapped earlier this afternoon:

The last time I saw it in person was just after 5pm and there didn't appear to be any more up than what you see in these photos.

Awesome!

On a side note, the grass in front of the art gallery looks very nasty (hence why i like the dry months, sure the grass is burnt but at least our public lawns don't look like pig farms).

I emerged from the City Centre skytrain station tonight after a month away at school and was surprised and excited to see, first, the huge HBC Olympic banners right in front of me, and the to the left of me that giant Canadian flag. Wow, what an amazing first impression! It really made me excited for the olympics. They look great, and I can't wait to see more of them around downtown.

I love the flag on the building! I can see how some people might think it's tacky, but I think it's pretty good. Very iconic. Better than a flag-pasted-on-the-side-of-a-building look. Compare it to Canada Post building's Canadian flag.

Actually what might have been nicer is if it echoed the sears building, in that the banner on this building was all white except for the maple leaf part. So taking out the two red rectangles and make them white. Well the way it is now is nice too.

For those that might not like it so much... I think from a athlete/media person/visitor point of view, the imagery of an installation like this is something they would probably remember. It does have impact at street level.

I think it looks fantastic. And I guess this puts to the bed the discussion about whether or not the hotel will be open for the games huh? I am hoping, now that the Georgia has done this, that the Canada Post building will do some sort of wrap on their building (as a big sponsor) that is different from their regular Canada Day thing.
