Back at the time the province wanted the city to chip in for interchanges. I'm not sure the city ended up paying anything and hobbling the Dewdney exit could have been the result. There are stories about the city being asked for money but none about a council vote approving it. There are plans that show what that intersection would have looked like if it had south ramps, and they could be added. The GTH one was a given as the province had contractual obligations to Loblaws / CP. Dewdney was probably a compromise with the 9th Ave N and Hill Ave ones considered more important. The Hill Ave one will likely connect to both Sask Drive and Parliament Avenue in the future.

From the controller the video looked dark so I stopped recording. But what I did record was ok. Trickier spotting hazards flying at night. I knew there was a set of power lines around there I needed to avoid.

They were busy during the night. Downloading 25GB of video from the drone which will take a while to edit, render and upload to youtube.

Videos from this morning.

Added a few pics from the east. https://imgur.com/a/regina-sk-april-2025-akoCc73

Something is being built beside the movie theatre. Aurora site plan shows a large single tenant building.

Pretty big footprint. Wonder if that's the rumoured grocery store.

A few Holy Rosary school demo pics from the ground at the bottom of this gallery. https://imgur.com/a/regina-sk-april-2025-akoCc73

Added some drone shots from Wednesday morning. They were just sorting through rubble so I didn't both taking any video, also there was light rain.

Since Thursday looks nice I may take the quicker bike out to Emerald Park. Maybe I'll swing past the school again on the way out to see if I can catch some active demolition, though they may have got most of it done this afternoon.

I do not believe that I have seen anything about Invenergy's massive renewable project that just received environmental approval and is set to start construction this summer just SE of Regina. The has 500MW of wind and 140 MW of solar! This dwarfs anything else in SK.

This location is just south or Richardson and Kronau (south of Highway 33). It will comprise 87 massive wind turbines and 20 quarter sections of solar.! I do not know the price tag but it has to be billions.

Invenergy is huge and the real deal. They still need a power purchase agreement with SaskPower, but that should be quite doable.

Here are the project documents:

https://publications.saskatchewan.ca/#/categories/6098

Edit: They may already have a 20 year PPA with SaskPower

For scale, the 87 wind turbines will be taller than any building in Regina.

Wind power is far more powerful than it used to be. Each turbine going in these recent projects generates about 4x the energy of the turbines from the decommissioned Centennial farm. Centennial used 1.2MW turbines, Bekevar used 5.4MW, Golden South 4.8MW.

..and they are $8 million+ each.

They should be visible from downtown buildings.

True, the up-front cost is decent, but wind and solar are both cheaper than any non-renewable energy at this point. You still need something big for base load and emergencies (nuclear is the best, imo), but solar and wind allow you to have cheaper energy for much lower environmental impact.

But I think you need to attribute the cost of baseload to wind and solar. If your billion dollar renewable plant requires a billion dollar gas plant to back it up, that should be included in the calculation.

Story saying the Viterra crushing plant is unlikely to proceed. https://www.producer.com/news/crushed-dreams/

I looked up some info on the non-potable pipeline the province ran over there in 2023. At least a $70 million price tag per this link. A 16" plastic pipe branches off from the 20" cast iron pipe near Sherwood Forest to service the Cargill plant, so it will see some use. The straw pulp plant will likely use that if it gets built.

The airport zoning change is unfortunate. Severely reduces the value of that chunk of land along Parliament Avenue that was opened up when they connected it to the Lewvan a decade ago. There was a cluster of 3 storey apartments planned for in there.

And airliners a way more quiet than they were 30 years ago.

That 9:00pm-ish cargo plane is still going though.

Is that the old DC-10? I recall it used to take off at about 05:30.

They retired that one 5 or 6 years ago. I always had to pause what I was watching if the window was open as it flew right over the house.

CargoJet operates a Boeing 757-200. It flies YXE-YQR-YWG and then returns a few hours later from YWG-YQR-YXE.
Cargo airlines do not have strict arrival/departure times (unlike passengers airlines) as each flight depends on loading/unloading time at each airport. It just depends on how much cargo they are carrying.

We never had DC-10 cargo planes. You are confusing it with the three-holer that did operate into/out of YQR - the Boeing 727, which was one of the loudest passenger/cargo jets flying. Less than 35 still operate worldwide today (out of a total 1832 that were built).

It may have changed times, but man it was so obvious when it was coming in or leaving. Even worse when they were doing the runway construction. The East-West runway goes over my neighbourhood.
