Construction on that one stalled because the developer ran out of money. https://www.ctvnews.ca/regina/articl...g-costs-audit/

What a shame that what should be nice low cost infill housing is plagued by cost overruns and is halted and under scrutiny.

Why in God‘s name with the city stop Construction or stop funding it doesn’t make any sense. They have to do an audit by the time that’s done. It’ll be double the price. This new city council is as dumb as a brick. Worse than the other one festivals have been cancelled nothing happening.

The video indicated it is 4 million over budget so far on a 7.5 million project and the city is probably on the hook for most of it. Contractors have been stiffed for nearly 2.5 million for getting close to a year. Its getting into REAL levels over spending. I think it is quite difficult for the city to authorize unbudgeted spending. Maybe the city can convince the feds to cover some of it since construction costs in general exploded over the past few years. I'm interested to see if it was the city or contractor that was supposed to be keeping tabs on the spending / progress. For city construction tenders the winning bidder usually has to put up a bond. The entire thing might end up in court. The story is about 2 months old, would be nice to get an update.

Back in the fall the highway 11 bypass bridge got hit. I just noticed today that they put in a barrier along the southbound lane to keep weight off the damaged edge of the bridge. That girder has a lot of cracking beyond the impact point.

I hadn't seen that. Unfortunate given the desperate need for affordable housing in the city. I know construction costs are ever-increasing, but a $4 million overrun on a $7.5 million project (so far) seems pretty extreme.

+$383k/unit also seems pretty extreme for "affordable housing"! How does that happen!?

The free panorama software just doesn't like clear skies, adding the sky back in has mixed results. Another free program can do the sky but is inconsistent. The paid program is pretty good but too expensive.

Not sure, but the project seemed to have a lot of novel design elements and accoutrements that you would not expect to see on an affordable housing project or a project where cost control is a priority.

Looking for some info on the project I saw that the community partner for the project, the North Central Family Centre has a $4 million fundraiser on that started a year ago. So I presume the city kept cutting checks until the account was empty and its the partner org that needs to cover the remainder. From the major donor list it looks like they raised over 1 million.

Proposed update to the Westerra neighborhood plan. https://www.regina.ca/export/sites/R...evelopment.pdf

One thing that was also in the previous plan was shifting Courtney Street to the west of the park. So whenever the city gets around to extending Courtney from Sherwood it will bypass the section of Courtney in Dieppe.

Took a quick orbit video at the north Albert bridge. I hope to catch the demo (maybe I should subscribe to justbins for a heads up), it might occur at night and/or on a weekend. I wanted to try a hyperlapse, but that is only on the Mini 3 pro, not the Mini 3. DJI's feature set is so confusing since they keep changing adding some features to older drones.

https://youtu.be/F7eorpI4Xzk

Got my answer for when the demolition is going to occur from a news story.

Demolition of the southbound bridge is set to begin March 28 at 8 p.m. and will continue overnight.

Thanks for the photos but imgur seems to suck for albums as I need to click on every picture which opens a brand new tab for each photo.

The City is closing 11th Ave downtown for the entire summer again. Another nail in the coffin for downtown.

The full album is here: https://imgur.com/a/regina-sk-march-LgBZXpD For new pictures I often just post a direct link so people don't have to scroll to bottom, I can start including the album link.

Wasn't it a 4 or 5 year project? It's not a surprise to anyone.
