By the way, the best units in most condos that have a podium are on the 4th floor as they have large private patios.

Still moving forward, it's going to the DPB on Aug 26th.

The Stock Exchange Building is said to have been in a gothic style, and I think the closely spaced mullions,
the articulation of the facade and the tapering of the mullions suggest a "gothic-ness" to the tower.
Note these narrow mullioned overhanging bay windows:
Great idea, terrible execution. Weird how the articulated mullions don't taper where they really should (at the projecting steps)

Here are the documents for their DPB meeting.

Think the large file shows a very interesting solution to the lack of distance from it's neighbour, will be interesting to see if this is replicated elsewhere.

Thanks for posting. The amount of time it must have taken to come up with all those plans can't be small. And all because of few neighboring residents...

No freaking kidding, eh? I can't believe the amount of favouritism the CoV has towards these extremely priviledged Jaimeson residents. I wish I'd be given the same kind of treatment by any municipality....

Thanks for posting!

I guess you can build the old MacBlo tower (1075 West Georgia) - with its deeply recessed waffle windows - pretty close to a condo tower!!

Again, put me down as a big fan of this tower. I love it slight gothic look and how it blends in with the existing tower.

Again, Vancouver may not be building the tallest towers, but I feel we are building a very interesting urban realm with these developments and a far more refined street level than other Canadian cities. (my last time in Toronto I could not believe how boring and sterile the street scape was at the base of many of their big new tall condo towers).

It looks like floor space increases as you go higher up the tower, except the very top section.

It's an interesting concept, nonetheless.

Murchie's closes June 22 to reopen at 815 Hastings St W.

The sushi place beside it is already closed. This must be starting up in the not-so-distant future.

I am now firmly a fan of this design. It's grown on me with each new render.

Myself as well, as the renders become better quality I get a better sense of what it would look like. It's a shame it won stand a head above most other buildings in the skyline, but it will be prominent in it's area for many years.

Just hoping they don't find a way to fuck the design with seafoam.

Count me in, too. Imagine the original design with the pointed tiangle roof and the zigzags

That would have been ok, but in a rather larger building, not in this location, all new, and not incorporating and thus overwhelming, a heritage building, such as is not the case here.

For why not? It has, so it will. Do, because.

According to the building sections it will be 375 feet (= 114.3 meters), quite a bit shorter than it is shown in the diagrams, that's just a bit shorter (~ 4 m) than neighboring Jameson House. It will only make the second page in the Vancouver diagrams section, probably as the 35th tallest building in the city.

As for the design itself, I think it makes more sense than the first, as it's somewhat less random but also less distinctive in form, and unfortunately shorter, making no contribution to the skyline. I keep thinking it looks like a cabinet with the drawers not quite closed. Hopefully the details and quality of the construction will help achieve the design goals they have set.

Soon the tabletop skyline will be complete, and we can serve breakfast to some offshore giants who are stopping by to browse the condo market.
