This building is going to be an absolute nightmare for the schools in the Greens as the only entrance into the parking lot is directly across from the schools entrances.

I am really, really not a fan of the city's insistence that all developments have a single entrance/exit per city block. Yes, it is better in some respects (fewer accidents due to better control of traffic and failure points), but it also leads to really bad congestion at certain points.

Hey, every ingress/egress drive removed is 3 more street parking spots. With the continued easing or limitation of parking requirements, that is where most of the parking may be anyway.

First new gallery of 2025 since it was finally warm and not windy. Ended up getting shots of the YWCA, General Parkade, 15th & Toronto, College & St John, College & Broad and that apartment on 23rd. I initially skipped 15th / St John, but when I was near College & Broad I figured it was only a few blocks so I could just fly back from where I was.

I was just about to take off in Westerra when my phone died. It looks like they are moving fast digging the remaining foundations on the Avana site. I'll probably get out there in a few days, it is supposed to be windy tomorrow.

The combination of cold and power hungry drone app drains it fast. Might need to add a USB heating pad in the drone controller case. I modified my drone controller case to make it faster to get setup. Made 2 holes so the controller fits without having to install and unscrew the controller sticks every time I move.

The old YWCA building on McIntyre has sold to Vancouver investors. They say they plan to covert it to student housing, which I assume means immigrant housing. Many immigrants are here on "student" visas. The are only spending $700K on renos, which will barely scratch the surface. They paid $2.5 million for a 6 floor, 65,000 square foot building. The building was built in the mid-70s. The top 4 floors already contain 60 shelter suites.

I guess this is positive. There is demand for cheap housing.

Thank you for everything you do we love it and on that note there is no way in hell that Regina‘s building permits are only $400 million. There is Construction after Construction with millions of millions of dollars of of buildings going up so if something does not add up a lot of times when it comes to Regina news things do not show up. I don’t know why.

Feel free to "fact check" the building permit values for 2024. It's public record.

The total for 2024 is: $531,059,375.84

The first week's total for 2025 is: $8,057,151.00

One factor is: GTH is not included despite it being within the City limits. They have a separate building permit system. Cargill ($350 million) and SaskPower ($280 million) would have a significant impact, although spread over several years.

Definitely too windy to be flying the drone today. It was tilted 45 degrees trying to maintain position but the wind over powered it causing it to drift east. I gave up trying to fly it back and just landed on the sidewalk. I'll have to head back out there some time next week when I can fly high enough to get the entire site in one shot.

It looks like they started excavating for the 11th building this week.

I went back today expecting it not to be windy, but it was. That finally convinced me to switch drones. I ordered a DJI Mini 3 and will sell the Neo. 3x the flight time and nearly twice the maximum speed (57 km/h), a better camera, and a gimbal that keeps the camera level in the wind. The basic Mini 3 is about the same price as the Neo Flymore bundle.

Update: Old drone sold, new one arriving Tuesday.

Which development is this? There’s so much construction going on. It’s hard to keep track and only $500 million. I don’t think so. There’s hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars with a Construction permits missing doesn’t make any sense just like you can’t find any news on any of these projects you have to search for them and search, but still, you won’t find them.
