Any one know the nature of the work on Regina Avenue between Lewvan and Pasqua? They are working on the eastbound side presently and it looks like it may be slightly widened? Or perhaps I'm just imagining things...

Are there supposed to be any notable changes to the intersection of Regina Avenue and Lewvan Drive?

No, you're not imagining things at all; the city is installing double left-hand turning lanes onto Regina Ave east/westbound.

West bound won't actually be active for a while until the rest of the road is widened.

I'm surprised the office building on 11th and Albert was built as a Class B. Class B vacancy is really high, but Class A is still really low.

I'm also surprised that the Double Tree didn't upgrade to Class A when it did its renos. I can't see their vacancy dropping much in the next couple of years.

The classification of office buildings in Regina don't really allow for the upgrade of buildings that much.

Very few buildings have the structure to move from B or B+ to A. Generally A are over 100,000 SF. As such, the double tree could line their building in gold and it wouldn't get above B+.

11th and Albert is lucky to have it's class at B+ given how it was built.

Thanks for the info. Might they also improve the sidewalk along the westbound side of Regina Avenue? I live in the neighbourhood and take some pride in being able to physically walk to the airport if I choose to. But there are parts around that intersection that are a little hairy for pedestrians.

I noticed they had installed two overhead signals for only one lane, which seemed odd.

Parts? I'd think the entire section between the alley off Regina Avenue and the pedestrian trail after Sandra Schmirler would be considered PAD: Pedestrian-Antagonistic Design.

They've painted the area above the newly installed doors (closest to Montanas) green... which seem to be the colour most dollar stores go with... so... yeah... another dollar store...

I agree. Really unfortunate. Can't realistically walk to the airport in many cities in Canada, North America, or the world.

I'll take that as a no then that there are no improvements to the side walk then.

Regina has the highest crime rate per 100,000 in Canada; Saskatoon has the highest crime rate as a municipality. (Based on any Criminal Code violations.)

Now CJME just stated that Saskatoon has the highest overall crime. Regina is still right behind though.

The good news is that rates across Canada including Regina are off by half in ten years. This is all about demographics not policing. Grandmas don't jack cars. Not coincidently Saskatoon is Canada's youngest city.

There is also the native gang issue that they've been trying to rein in over the last number of years with various programs.

Can anyone recommend a roofing contractor to replace shingles. Also I have cedar now but I am considering changing to a high-end asphalt shingles due to cost and performance issues. Thoughts?

D&R roofing did my house and garage and they were quick and professional. I think pretty much anybody in the yellow pages will be OK, just ask for references. Avoid any ads for cheap, one-man operations on Kijiji or Facebook.

I'd really take a long hard look at that shingle choice though. Is your house a vintage 1920's home that originally came with cedar shakes? It would be a shame to lose that character and charm. A lot of homes in the Crescents are stripping off their shingles and replacing them with shakes to return the houses to their former glory. If you're in a 1950's or newer home though I'd say just shingle it, it's more age appropriate and cost effective.

Thanks. It is a 30 year old house. Modern style. Cedar shingles rather than shakes. I was just up there and they are toast.
