Seriously, without that it's just kind of an ugly brick building... I mean the effort will be appreciated, but. Though maybe they were just lazy. It's also kind of missing the big sign piece sort of. So, maybe it's just for the render.

totally agreed - without that it's just a boring brick render - not much better than the original render they had proposed if they weren't going to keep the original first floor look..

that and the detailed renders show it - so I am going to pray it's just a simplified render.

ugh upon looking on their site this IS the revised drawing.. not having a good feeling about where this is headed.. I really hope they aren't cutting corners to just get this done..

I sent urbansolutions an email detailing my grievances with that potential solution..

here is their contact if you wish to contact them with your comments..

Here is one of the only surviving art deco kresge "fountains" left:

Canadian Art Deco revival: Facade Detail, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This pattern "Fountain" was made using molds taken from art deco murals on the old Kresge building (Douglas and View), before it was torn down

so slapped onto that hoarding are signs that are actually encouraging people to "degentrify" the new developments - telling people to smash windows, glue door locks shut etc. I was very offended to see this - you can't fight progress, and why would you want to see an area remain crappy? I don't get it.

Hopefully the developer will make HPS aware of all this, once permits are issued and construction begins .Their station on King William is a 2-minute walk from the site.

I also really hope that this development doesn't back out of putting the original art deco pyramid styles back on this building - like I said there is only the one left in BC with the original cast mold, but I hope they didn't scrap it just to save on costs..

I sent their contact an email pleading with them to keep it, but of course they never got back to me..

also as it stands this building is the new "pre-fixed" lister block in hamiltons symbol of decay. The sooner this thing gets demolished and rebuilt the better imo..

Not exactly true, there are new buildings in the international village, but yes in the gore park region for sure.

Anyone know where this project is right now, in terms of the City's endlessly long approvals process?

It has been confirmed numerous times that the facade will be recreated using new materials on top of the new structure.

The original building will be totally demolished so digging for the parking structure can begin.

still no clarification from the designers though whether they are removing the ziggaret designs above the windows - the new renders no longer show them above the windows.

I don't understand why they wouldn't.

First mistake is trusting renders as accurate renditions of what will be built, especially with Graziani & Corazza.
