They probably were, but the 70s were colder.

I think that would be a disaster for us. Only now are we finally starting to embrace being a winter city. Yes winter can be grueling but we're never going to have Phoenix weather so we might as well make the most of winter and make it part of our identity, it can really be something that sets us out from other places if we start to celebrate it instead of just fear and despise it. The river skating trail, raw & almond, festival du voyageur etc. are all very unique and very "Winnipeg" experiences that you can't get just anywhere. But even a slight change in the weather would put all that at risk, hell they can barely keep the outdoor rinks open as it is. I don't want to think about a day when kids can't go shoot pucks around outside in Winnipeg of all places! If it warms up, we're not going to suddenly be Phoenix. It'll just be warm enough to ruin all the cool parts of winter and leave us with 6 months of that ugly brown slush all over the place. We just need to design for winter to make it more liveable.

SE corner I think (entrance to formal gardens from Park/Roblin). Part of the site prep for Diversity Gardens.

The following road closures come into effect on Monday, May 8.

Locomotive Drive closed to vehicle traffic east of Conservatory overflow parking lot.
Both eastbound turn-offs from Conservatory Drive onto Locomotive Drive become two-way loop with no through traffic.
Formal Garden Way closed to vehicle traffic.
Southeast corner entrance closed (Roblin Blvd. and Park Blvd.)
Southbound turn-off from Assiniboine Park Drive onto Locomotive Drive closed to vehicle traffic.

did i say sw woops was on me phone and got my directions flipped around i gues yes the SE corner. fencings all up and road blocks in place and cordans going down to 1 lane there atm

this corner of graham and kennidy sure got spiffed up over the last few weeks extending the finish of the coffeeshop skin to the other storefronts around it looks way better

^ An improvement for sure. As I said in another thread with a pic of that building though, I wouldn't mind to see it get replaced with something a bit better eventually.

Incidentally, I also really wish the Halter Building could get the love that it deserves in the form of a nice top-to-bottom renovation and perhaps some tenants in the storefront spaces. It's a great building but the current owner (the Women's Health Clinic, as I understand it) has neither the means nor the inclination to do anything with it.

The building with the coffee shop, etc seems to be an "addition" to the house. This would be similar to the old block on Albert St that burned done some years ago.

In other news we haven't had a new large proposal in a while, hopefully something comes up. I'd be down for a nice shiny tower on the gravel lot by 201 portage or something nearby in the 35 ish floor range.

Something new to discuss eh. With renderings that make us look like we have mountains nearby kinda like the 300 main video.

^ Good point, it has been a while. But I'm honestly not sure what would realistically be floated at this point... the downtown condo/rental apartment market is seeing a lot of units either recently completed or under development, and there's action on the office/hotel front as well. Is there enough demand to support a couple more residential towers in or around downtown?

Hopefully Harvard presents us with a nice project for that horrible lot, even if it is, say, only 15 stories.

15 floors would be a major upgrade over the current arrangement but I don't have to tell anyone here that. It seemed to me that trueviking or someone had hinted at an upcoming project there but I could be mistaken.

theres proposals in the works the kind that one wants all there boxs checked befor it goes public least 2 if not 3 we will see

but yea we got a 90million dallor facility anounced a week and bit ago for rrc in the exchange i would concirder that a big deal
