We went 4-0 one year and then were last in the league by 15-20pts.

I think a lot of people expect Edmonton to take a step back this year, looks like it may be the case. Still far too early to judge, but the Oilers don't seem to have the same mojo they did last year.

Can't believe Ottawa outscored the Alberta teams 12-1, that's not going to happen very often with both teams in this province on the way up lol.

Anyone who's talking about hitting the panic button in the first week and a half of the season must not watch much hockey. Sounds like a Leafs fan! lol.

No panic yet, 4 games in does not a season make
This isn't unusual, Anaheim went 1-3-1 in their first 5 games last season and made the WCF, so really just need some polish to the team game and should start turning things around

Oilers are averaging 38.75 shots per game, they just can't buy a goal right now. A lot of guys need to be better but teams seem to go through stints like this every year where nothing's going right. Hopefully this is the one and only for the Oilers

Yes but Leafs fans have come to terms with this a long time ago whereas there's a segment of Habs fans that still have illusions of grandeur about their franchise. Bottomline is they are coming up on a quarter century without doing anything and the current team is no man's land and it looks like they'll be stuck there for while. Basically they're a bubble team that needs to rebuild but can't (Carey Price, Shea Weber, etc) like the Leafs were in the Phil Kessel era. Soon it'll be 30 years and so on.

Leafs drought is embarassing.

Ironically, eventhough the Habs were the most recent Canadian team to win the cup, I feel they will be the last to do so going forward. Leafs, Oilers, Jets, etc are all looking promising. While the Habs are stuck as a bubble team for at least the duration of Price's contract. It will be a very long time before they realize they have to blow it up and rebuild. And even if they finally decide to do it, they will always chose the best available French guy to manage or coach their team.

Here's the thing about decades long cup droughts: They're going to be really common.

If every team wins a cup before repeating, with equal time in between each win, each team would only win once every 31 years. Obviously that won't happen, strong teams have a tendency to repeat - something which wasn't supposed to be common in the parity age. Yet, we have only had 4 teams (Pittsburgh x3, Chicago, x3, Los Angeles x2, Boston x1) win in the last 9 years. Every time a team repeats or wins a second cup in quick succession, another team has to be bumped from winning within the next 31 years. Pittsburgh has bumped 2 teams out, Chicago has bumped 2 teams out, LA has bumped 1 team out. This means that at least 5 teams are going to go more than 31 years without a cup from the time of Pittsburgh's 2009 win.

Since 2009, 4 teams have won, 26 still need to win (not counting Las Vegas since they just started) in the next 21 seasons which is obviously impossible. So at least 5 teams need to go 30 seasons from 2009 without a Cup. Anytime a team wins a multiple cups after 2009, everybody else's chances of winning within the next 30 years takes a hit. For teams with lengthy droughts like Toronto, New York Islanders, Philadelphia, Calgary, Edmonton and yes, Montreal (now 6th longest drought) This increases the odds of each drought lasting another 21 years from today (30 from 2009). Not to mention teams that have never won, some dating back to 1967-68 expansion like St. Louis or early 70s like Vancouver and Buffalo.

The Canucks get three of a possible four points off of hot Ottawa. And after seeing what the Senators did in Alberta this result seems pretty impressive.

Kucherov becomes the only person since Lemieux to score a goal in the first seven games. That line has to be the best in the league right now, but he's also going to get paid. $8.5 - $9 mil probably?

Edited - he probably could score a girl every night too.

The Senators were shut out even though they were dominant for much of the game. Got to give the Canucks credit for not giving the Sens those dangerous second chances and for having a hot goaltender. The third goal was a dagger and was lucky after Karlsson hit the goal post on a wicked shot that rebounded to the perfect place giving a break away. But that is part of the game.

Although Karlsson was not in midseason form, he still made 2 great plays that in other games may have resulted in goals and the Sens had some great power plays that also didn't produce anything.

Don't get excited, it's going to be a long season for the Canucks.
