Yes digging has started on the second phase of the project. The one at the back in the Selkirk St/Montgomery St corner

So this *new* tower is the 28 fl. Bring it on.

I've warmed up to this building over time. In the right light it can look more than the sum of its parts. This is one of the best locations in the city for a group of towers from a... I used to play a ton of SimCity standpoint. Heading eastbound on Cummings bridge was overdue for a little boost on the urban densification view angle. Eager to see the project at Montreal rd and Vanier Parkway for a backdrop to this set of towers.

I can live with the tower design, but the podium looks horrible. Flat grey stucco with the cheapest windows possible. Looks like crappy aluminum windows we used to have in strip malls.

Ponny Boy's right, it matches the old Government Office blocks. I really wish they would have given us some colour to contrast with the greys of Vanier towers.

Truly terrible design in such a prominent location. Even if they at the very least kept the brown spandrels on the podium, even that small detail would have made this just a little more barrable.

I was by it on the weekend, and am kind of with you. I feel that it looks decent, and fits that corner well. The podium didn't strike me as bad. I would say that one side of the building is much better than the other.

One that has less street interaction, less permeability, for a start.

Yeah sure. Not complaining about that. It will have plenty of retail which should keep the surroundings fairly active. My problem is that it looks bad. They used the absolute cheapest materials. It looks drab and 40 years outdated.

I don't find it that cheap-looking from up close. It feels pretty versatile, and the articulation adds some nice variety. I think it will look better when the retail is full and you have patios up front. That assumes that they fit it up nicely - if not, it could look bad.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a great podium by any stretch, I just don't think it's that bad.

Having a Rideau River view is not a bad alternative if you've been squeezed out of having an Ottawa River one. I'm betting there'll be a lot more height along the Rideau in coming years.

Yeah, hoping the patio and landscaping with help, along with retail tenants and their signs.
