As much I would love a 30 storey building on this site, I have a very strong feeling the design is going to be downgraded so drastically that we wish it would be less visible, kind of like 1960 Scott and that Trinity garbage at Rideau/Chapel.

I don't know about that, it's kind of hard to eff this design up. straight lines, no staggered platforms or unique forms and uniform and consistent pattern.

I think the make or break it, boils down to materials.

[edit: okay it can be effed up, but to the point of scott street and story of w.e? I'm doubtful]

Agreed, but that's if they stick with the design from the most recent renders. Now that this is being built as rentals, I can't imagine why Claridge wouldn't change the design completely and build anything other than another than the charcoal/beige brick monstrosities they've been cloning all over the city. I'd love for them to prove me wrong.

I don't see how the design could have changed! For a building this size they have to go through site plan approval and design review process. since we haven't seen new documents on DevApp since the conversion to rental I think they are building the exact same tower they were going to build as Condo.

Please forgive my ignorance but I actually didn't know they had to do that... still learning the nuances of the city's approval processes for highrises.

With the amount of bait and switch we seem to get, I just assumed that developers could build whatever they want after getting an initial design approved. Though now that I think about it more, we do at least see renders of the dumbed-down designs when they are submitted for approval.

Hoping they at least use decent materials for the approved-design.

Edit: Just to clarify, can Claridge re-submit the SPA for a design change while the building is U/C? I seem to recall something along those lines happening at the Met when the developer asked for a height increase while the building was already rising.

I could see them getting rid of the alternating balcony shapes and just having a consistent floor plate all the way up. Easier to build and wouldn't have any effect on the unit floor plans. I hope they keep the alternating though

They're digging, its pretty deep right now not sure how much deeper they need to go before pouring a crane base.

Thanks for the update! Glad its happening! The lack of much action this winter/early spring had me worried it was just dead at this point.

It will be pretty nifty if we get the same height and design as the previous condo approval here. I cross the Alexandra Bridge every morning and admire that burgeoning Western skyline. This will be a pretty awesome addition to it, a real gap filler.

Drive by today and I noticed the large excavator has been demobilized from site. I'm assuming excavation is pretty much complete.

Nice to see significant progress after such a slow start! Feels like a really small footprint tho

Sure doesn't seem like 7 stories under grade per the Sept 2022 devapp.

There is an article here from Jun 2023 that include discussion of this building and is quoting Malhotra/Claridge...I assume this kind of site gives editorial control to the buiders so what they want said gets said.

Still showing the same tower design, 272 units, late 2024/early 2025 occupancy. Couldnt see any more info on the below grade.

https://allthingshome.ca/new-homes/a...91LGtwFAEndwsA

I think the Sept 2022 devapp shows 262 units...
