And it definitely looks like there are lots of gullible people out there (and here) who choose to be manipulated by them, and attack those who choose not to.

What on earth is your point here?

At least my housing situation is solid if I'm living rent free in your head.

The last time they saw Hussein.

Quote:
A Yemeni man facing four sexual assault charges involving four Vancouver people will be given his passport back so he can get a new passport and update his student visa.

Hussein Sharaf Al-Shami is charged in connection with three incidents that occurred on April 27, 2023, and one on May 3, 2023. The identities of the victims are covered by a publication ban.

Defence lawyer Michael Mines told Vancouver Provincial Court Judge Harbans Dhillon that Al-Shami has entered a plea and is to be sentenced on Jan. 29.

He is in Canada on a student visa.

One condition of his bail was that he surrender his passport to police.

However, Mines said, in order to renew his visa, Al-Shami needs his passport.

The court heard Al-Shami's passport is about to expire so he needs to obtain new travel documents.

Al-Shami said he would have to send his passport to Yemeni officials in Washington, D.C. for a new passport to be issued.

Dhillon agreed to a new release order.

She said he can retrieve his passport from police for the sole purpose of renewing it. Any new travel documents must then be surrendered to police, she said.

“You must not obtain any further travel documents without permission of the court,” Dhillon said.

She said if he absconds or leaves, serious legal consequences would follow.

Dhillon also ordered that Al-Shami not leave B.C. without permission from his bail supervisor.

Serious consequences will follow if you break the law a fifth time *slaps wrist*

People who talk about how stats don’t show crime on the rise is purely because of underreporting. People have so little faith in the police and in our justice system that they just don’t report it as often anymore.

Just last week my friend got attacked by a homeless woman by waterfront station. The lady threw an apple at her and then proceeded to try to kick her before a Good Samaritan stepped in. She didn’t report it.

My brother stopped reporting thefts from his work van / other crimes against him and his property a few years ago now. Says it’s just a waste of time.

Waste of time and not worth the embarrassment of having a cop chastise you and tell you are overreacting.

It's also sad because you are now seeing assault victims basically not wanting to go through the arduous legal process only to have the assailant walk out anyways due to having mental health issues or a "difficult upbringing."

Possible, but you also need to consider homicide stats, it is not as if homicides go unreported, after all

Man who stabbed stranger at Vancouver Tim Hortons released to halfway house: police

Vancouver police are warning the public that a man convicted in the random stabbing of a stranger at a downtown Tim Hortons in 2022 will once again be living at a halfway house in the city.

David Richard Morin was arrested on a Canada-wide warrant last month for breaching the conditions of his release. On Tuesday, he was re-released, the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement.

"VPD believes compelling reasons exist to warn the public that he poses a high risk of significant harm to the community," spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said.

Morin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years for aggravated assault in the unprovoked attack on a Mexican tourist. He was released in June of 2024 after serving two-thirds of that time behind bars, prompting a similar warning from authorities.

I don't understand the compassion for this madman and other like him, he comtributes nothing to society, he's a lost cause. Some might say to me "you don't him and he might have a family who loves him and hopes he turns his life around."
Well, I know all I need to know, that was a brutal attack, he was just lucky his actions were not fatal (I think his actions where indented to be fatal). It should be attempted murder and a sentence of 20 years at the sound of the gavel

And he's bound to his parole conditions only until June 2025. Which he's already violated.

His prior record:

Quote:
Morin has faced numerous charges dating back to 2012, including assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, uttering threats and unlawful confinement.

I always find it bizarre when the police need to warn the general public of someone being released... Like, isn't that a red flag that somethings wrong with the judicial system?

Just one more reason why Canada’s justice system is a joke. Literally try to stab someone to death and all you get is a slap on the wrist.

If the poor Mexican tourist died after the stabbing, would Morin still be released? The Canadian judicial system is not only broken, it is downright appalling and disgusting! I would like Morin to be in a work camp now instead of walking along the streets.

Three sheriffs, guard allegedly assaulted in B.C. courthouse jail

A man has been released on bail after allegations he assaulted four Vancouver courthouse staff following his arrest on a warrant for other charges.

George Sebastian Neufeld, 35, had been taken into custody at the 222 Main courthouse Nov. 20. He had arrived at the courthouse to vacate warrants but was taken into custody.

The events alleged to have happened in the cells area led to charges that Neufeld had assaulted one jail guard and three deputy sheriffs.

After those alleged incidents, Neufeld was put into the closed-in, secure prisoner’s dock in a courtroom. He was restrained into a wheelchair and had a mask over his head with a guard covering his mouth to prevent him from spitting at anyone.

There’s normally one deputy sheriff at a desk near the prisoner’s dock in Courtroom 101 to expedite prisoner appearances. In this instance, however, three deputies were inside the dock with Neufeld in addition to the single deputy.

Four charges of assaulting a peace officer in the execution of their duties were sworn the next day and he appeared before Judge Patrick Doherty in Vancouver’s Downtown Community Court.

Sources told Glacier Media the officers all had to go to hospital to be checked out.

A court information sworn June 30 alleged Neufeld uttered a threat to a man and others June 1 and had also committed mischief that same day.

His first appearance on those charges was June 30 and he remained in custody until July 23. He had twice refused to attend court while in custody, court records said.

A warrant was issued for Neufeld Nov. 19. He showed up the next day to deal with the warrant but was taken into custody.

The details of the bail hearing before Doherty are covered by a publication ban.

His previous experience in the system.

Quote:
Police were called to check on George Neufeld, 30, at his condo because he was believed to be suicidal. When he didn’t want to let them in or cooperate, the situation turned into a nine-hour ordeal that brought out several police officers, shut down a stretch of road and ended with his arrest. He was taken to the hospital with pepper spray still on his face and hair, according to his father, Peter Neufeld.

George was charged with assault and uttering threats and eventually released from the hospital into police custody before being taken to the Surrey Pretrial Services Centre, where his family says he has remained in segregation ever since.

“Absolutely helpless, stripped,” his mother, Heather Sabastian, said describing how she felt trying to help her son. “What it made me, honestly, is ashamed of being a Canadian. And I have never felt this in my life.”

The family didn’t know where their son was, according to Sabastian, and only found out when they threatened to file a missing persons report. She says the family has still not been told why George is in segregation, but believe it is because of his mental health issues and because he is transgender.

“The people who are [at the pretrial centre] are the ones who are so dangerous, they are not eligible to be on bail until they go to trial. So that’s the population he’s with,” Sabastian said. “Does this make sense? This is the worst possible place to put someone who’s vulnerable, like my son.”
