Below is Fort Rouge Gardens as mentioned in the first post but called Lot 6 on the Ironclad website. About 3 weeks ago I had walked by and they were finishing the piling on site. Looks like some walls are starting to go in where the crane is.

And closer to Jubilee station there is an apartment or condo (not sure) block being built right next to the new townhouses. Looks like it going to be 4 storeys?? Does anyone have information on that?
That's not the parker lands eh? Still north of jubilee?

WPS has really tanked lately, I'd cite examples, but its all around. All I'll say is that when the RCMP are banging down their doors everyday for the bullshit that comes out of the Winnipeg Police Service, including IIU investigations, the dirty cops, HQ's with sketchy construction companies who could be bugging and wiretapping the WPS HQ for all we know, plus emptying clips on Aboriginal kids, and all of this other bullshit... then in all honestly, maybe Winnipeg should be replacing them with RCMP, and pull a Surrey, to clean house and keep things from completely imploding?

Bonus to that as well: in a construction sense, if the RCMP could move Division D into the WPS HQ after such a repatching/takeover, theoretically Downtown safety would be enhanced, hundreds of extra Mounties around for public safety, plus all of that extra spending money from their salaries... did I mention further redevelopment of Portage Avenue around Dominion St, and potentially further Downtown construction? It would be the PERFECT safety and security fix for Downtown Winnipeg, while also allowing further development at the corner of Portage & Dominion as well.

In Kenora they disbanded their local police force and replaced them with the OPP. Just a few years ago.

Bingo. And hey, I get it. Nobody like being called a racist. And I ain't callin you or anyone on this forum a racist. But I am calling out bigoted comments. One can have racist actions/comments without realizing that their actions are of a bigoted nature. I'd call that ignorance. Racist would be when one continues that behaviour even after knowing the weight of their words/actions.

So comments like:

while being quite true when the subject belongs to the majority class (read: white & middle-class), is all too often a very different reality for minorities.

You'd be lying to yourself if you believe that the same cops (or many of us) would react the same way to pulling over a car for rolling through a stop sign with a pair of 20-something white girls in the car, versus a pair of 20-something aboriginal guys in the car. Or responding to a suspicious activity report from a single, white mother with 4 kids in Linden Woods vs a single aboriginal mother with 4 kids in Dufferin.

I honestly don't believe you have any intention of being racist or bigoted in any direct way, but comments like the yours above do serve to perpetuate the very dangerous & harmful stereotype that cops (& society in general) is out to 'protect & serve' all of us on the same level playing field. And this stereotype when left unchecked leaves the door open to generations of MMIW for example. It's not a few bad apples. It's human nature left unchecked.

So yeah, I'm 'checking' comments like Spocket's for perpetuating the idea that "many" of our urban destitute are violent & destructive. Our urban destitute are simply urban dwellers who don't have the means to provide for themselves due to poverty. Yes, there'll be violent people in that batch. And yes, destitution will likely exacerbate their violent tendencies, but there's no way we can say destitution=violence as Spocket is insinuating. Just in the same way I can't insinuate that middle-class domestic abuse is due to the fact that they're middle-incomed.

It's absurd to use this fear-baiting that poor folks are violent as a means to justify the obscene tax dollars going to WPS. Like rrskylar said, let's try something different. Let's try redirecting some of these funds to programs that have a successful track record of helping shift these folks from destitution to productive members of our community.

So yes, you're completely right. Just as I hope you're able to see that there are all kinds of people who are just doing their thing and get caught up in trouble cause *sometimes* race or gender or poverty or sexual orientation has *everything* to do with it. (ask any family who's lost a loved one to the MMIW community)

Racist and bigoted have both become words the left uses when they don’t agree with anyone right of centre and name calling is their first defence. Easiest way to shut down free speech. Obviously true racism occurs but it is rarely that when a lefty uses the term or labels someone with the moniker.

When it comes to the issue of MMIWG, the problem is more about indigenous peoples making up a disproportionate segment of the impoverished population and less about police not doing their jobs to help people of another race.

There are higher rates of violent crimes among the people the lower your income level becomes. This isn't to say that poor people are criminals, violent crime is just more densely isolated to these communities. As indigenous make a a larger portion of this demographic, they become the victim of this demographic more often.

Police do however solve Indigenous Murders and missing persons at the same rate they do for the rest of the population. There just happens to be many more indigenous people who are murdered and missing.

This to me is not an indictment on the WPS but a social issue that needs to be addressed. This is not a reason to take money from the WPS as they are doing their job as well with the MMIWG as they are the other segments of the population. Finding a way to improve the lives of indigenous needs to come from somewhere else.

The role of an officer is to identify, contain and remove dangerous behavior that is currently occurring, not to solve social issues. If you want to improve social conditions for a group of people you should do so autonomously of the police.

Ironic how you accuse "Lefty" of labeling

Would use the word liberal but that has a whole different meaning in Canada, should have used leftists instead of lefty, thanks for pointing that out.

Does anyone know where genstar has their next planned community? On their website they just list the name "Summerlea" with the descroption

We're bringing a different kind of neighbourhood to Winnipeg. A welcoming community where people feel free to be themselves. A place where pedestrian-friendly streets encourage the human connections that make life worth living. A vibrant community, where neighbours can enjoy the location, the safety, and the sense of community they crave. A neighbourhood of people, not cars, and "hellos," not fences. A place of magnetic energy, where neighbours become family and houses become homes.

Was hoping Gunn Road would get upgraded to four lanes or any of the other east-west roads in east Winnipeg that are desperately needed!

Traffic lights going in at Concordia and Peguis.

Ridiculous speed limit on Transcona Blvd. near Plessis!

Hello friends,

I joined 6 years ago and posted a few questions in regards to development on North McPhillips. Specifically, Murray and Balgona road as my family has land in the area.

Fast track to 2020 and it seems things are progressing quickly. Does anybody know the plans for the areas development? I have seen some construction going on between Balgona and Emes on the East side of McPhillips. I think its sewer or storm drain going in. Murray has been developed quickly and I believe most of the residential development should be finished by next year. I think a school will fill in the remaining land. The rumors of Costco still exist, so it is indeed exciting times.

Question: Has anybody on this board dealt with the situation my family may find ourselves in? The city is getting closer to my parent property every year. What happens in situations like this? Do developers start asking to buy your property?

Any help, information or guidance would be wonderful.

Thank you.

I can't help you out with how developers purchase land for future developments but the below link is to the secondary plan for the area you are speaking about east of McPhillips, Precinct "G":

Wow, thank you so much. That helps me quite a bit!

Our property is across McPhillips on the West side so it will be interesting to watch it become developed.

That link is where you find all the precinct plans for the City. Currently there is no plan for west of McPhillips.

Basically your parents would have someone come knock on the door, or phone or whatever and ask to buy your land. They may go through a realtor they have on staff. I'm not exactly sue the process. But a developer will attempt to consolidate all the land under their ownership. Some people do hold out and you can see the effects in some of the developments around town. Funny shapes with a random house at the edge.

There was one on templeton in Amber trails. An old semi rural home completely surrounded by the new development. It's been empty for years, not sure if it was even occupied at the time of the development. They recently knocked it down and are building some habitat for humanity homes as far as I can tell.
