There is a T&T at 2800 E 1st Ave 8 min drive from Brentwood station. Safe on Food is few min. walk. Whole Food is across the street. I hope they can get Superstore into that basement area, or at least a safeway.

The size of the new mall extension is almost same as the existing old mall size (500K sq.ft.) which is not that big. The future Gilmore Place plaza will be about 500K sq.ft. too. Lougheed mall is expanding and remodeling. Oakridge mall will double in size (to 1.4 million sq.ft). All the outdoor parking area at these malls are converted into high raise condo and more mall area. We really have a lot of mall space to walk later. Great for the ladies... :-) Can these malls attract a lot of customers outside their area ? I am not sure. Metrotown is still the biggest mall (1.8M sq.ft) and Pacific Mall at downtown is always the luxury (or above average) destination. Alberni Street is still considered as one of the most prestigious retail addresses in North America.

When people talk about luxury shops at this new Brentwood mall, I wonder if they can replicate the Pacific mall there (the stores and the customer traffic). I think it is not easy.

When they built Park Royal Mall, they also said luxury stores there, I don't see many there nowaday.

Tsawwassen mills mall is pretty new and very nice but not that busy.

Please don't get me wrong, I really like walking and shopping in malls :-)

More and more shops closed in American malls because more and more people shop online. Many malls have shutdown. Let's hope it will never happen in Canada

From the Skytrain, Saveon foods is not near enough vs whole foods and even then it’s inconvenient having to cross that busy Willingdon/Lougheed intersection as a pedestrian (who doesn’t live in the residences atop those groceries) to reach any of the two from the Skytrain. If I were already at the Amazing site (I’m really not liking that name.. Lol) I’d love not having to go step out on the major thoroughfares or drive again just to get a bit of grocery while there.

Having a grocery within the same site whether one drives to the development or access it by Skytrain is the best. Saves one from the running around and parking here there etc.. Having everything under one roof so to speak is the most ideal. Those other retail stores might last longer on the site too given that convenient/captured foot traffic.

I have to agree with Hellokitty . Cross THAT street for that bottle of milk or loaf of bread is not as convient as you think . That corner is the busiest intersection in whole of north Burnaby. If you do major week end grocery shop , you ‘d better bring your car even if for just 1 block . Your granny care just won’t do it . Some kind of onsite grocery shop is a must for the 3 towers of people.

I live in Brentwood Park, behind the mall, and I have to agree. More importantly, most people do not live at the station. There are many condos at the Fortress (as I call it, official name Brentwood Gate) east of Beta, and in the apartments beyond Delta. Before the construction, many of those people would walk to the mall and train. Add to them Concord Brentwood (whose grocery store is far in the future) and those already living south of Lougheed there.

This is a large population. Previously, we were somewhat served by Zellers (eggs, milk, canned goods, prepared foods) and Kin's Farm Market. Though I think Save-On is fine, it's out of range. I believe planners expect pedestrians to walk up to about 10 minutes to a destination. After that, most people drive: many to Costco, which is insanely busy, others perhaps to Safeway on Hastings (where I go for short trips because the Save-On parkade is so terrible).

Despite the population increase, the current situation is worse than a decade ago. I suspect this has led to significantly more car trips for groceries. You can criticize human laziness if you like (it's a fairly nice walk to Save-On), but it doesn't change the fact. The demand is there, and it's not being met. I dearly hope a supermarket comes soon.

I find the idea of heading out to T&T on First Ave. laughable. Have you seen traffic recently? The whole point of a town centre is to reduce trip distance and make many by walking. I try very hard to avoid driving that far at all, especially during busy times. My Chinese mother-in-law would rather take the bus to Crystal Market. If she's going to Metrotown for groceries, there's something missing here.

You can get a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread at London Drugs.

T&T on 1st is not close, and if anything Brentwood gets an Osaka, more like what Park Royal has. Nicer store, similar content, same parent company.

Sorry, I forgot to add the traffic time. It can easily triple the time when driving west to Vancouver side.

did you hear any forumer shouting for T &T ? We just want a grocery store.....any grocery store where you can buy real food . Restaurants, LV, Birks. Prada, Boss , Michael Kors..... are bonuses.

But in reality what brands of grocery store are available.

Save-on foods is a block away, whole foods is across the street. Safeway is not close but up on hastings. So it leaves a Loblaws branded grocery store or a safeway/sobeys or a HY Louie brand which is IGA?

Pattison Group have other brands that would compliment Save On, and fit in. The most obvious would seem to be Meinhardts or Nesters Market, but there's also Urban Fare and Choices, although those might not be as likely given the Wholefoods already nearby.

Don't forget the "Real Canadian Superstore" ? It may not fit in the new high class section of the mall, but it should be ok in the old section of the mall, right ?
