Sorry, meant to say tallest building under construction in Canada. Don't know what I was thinking then.

That would be something to see Edmonton have the tallest building in the world but with the 1km high skyscraper under construction in Saudi Arabia, that will never happen.

Don't be so sure... in the 60's, who could have imagined that the Great One would become himself in Edmonton in the 80's...

1 in 21 chance of the Great One landing in Edmonton. I would say the odds of a world's tallest in Edmonton (at least 829 metres) to be several times that.

Excavation should be underway on the One Bloor West site by the time One Bloor East comes off the list. Probably take a couple years to get to the point of The One supertall getting built or not. Stantec may be finished by then.

I don't think One Bloor East - 258 meters will be completed by January 2017.

The debate on the Brookfield Place thread is whether or not they could turn it into a public observation deck or some other amenity space.

An observation deck would be just about perfect.

I doubt it will happen though. This city is terrible at including these types of public amenities in corporate towers.

I was just the king what you were all saying. Cool observation deck. Does Calgary do doors open? Maybe they can open it once a year for that?

It's still a mechanical space with very bright lights. There are some serious security and liability concerns Brookfield probably would want to go through with a "doors open"

I can only think of One World Trade Centre having a new observation deck in a commercial building outside of Asia and there's a long history to it being built.

The Library Tower/U.S. Bank Tower (whatever name it goes by today) in L.A. had an observation deck added recently. The Shard in London was built with an observation deck too.

Forgot about the Shard. Didn't know about the US Bank Tower. The Shard is something else; easily comparable to the grand gestures throughout Asia. US Bank Tower conversion makes some sense too. Downtown LA's office market is just awful and has been for some time. There aren't any competing observation decks either.

They also added that glass slide thing where you go around the outside of the tower 1000 feet up...

I'm on Doors Open Calgary board. I approached the contractor and developer for this year, but they declined. Hoping for next year when it opens.

Good luck once it's in Brookfield's hand. I've dealt with their managers on three different properties. Mind you, it was a lot closer to 9/11/2001.
