It might trick people into thinking that it's a popular event and might intecise people to buy tickets period. I hope that our city is lucky enough to have you here on New Years and I hope you enjoy your stay if you do some up. Lets us know what you think!

I'd say its more of an atmosphere thing, you'd rather have 4000 fans sitting closer to the ice than sprinkled all across the top of the bowl. More fans together can generate more noise. Now in reality you can go sit wherever you want after you buy your ticket but lots of people wont do that. The atmosphere was pretty good today I thought.

Parking (surprisingly) has been a non issue so far. I'm still glad I purchased the Wildcats VIP parking pass though. I just appreciate not having to worry about searching for a parking space once I'm downtown.

The atmosphere in the Avenir Centre is good. It really doesn't bother me much if I can hear the on ice banter or not. There seems to be less heckling from the stands though. I don't know if this is because the hecklers at the Coliseum didn't move over, or that there are no hecklers in my particular section.

The quality of the hockey so far this year has been first rate. The passes are crisp, the set plays have been executed well and the goaltending has been outstanding. I know the players for the most part are a year older this year, but I think there may be more to it than this. I wonder if playing in a pro arena isn't in itself elevating the level of game play. Perhaps its bringing out the best in the players.

I have heard that the scouts really like coming to the Avenir Centre because of the amenities in the press box. You may see more scouts making the trek to Moncton because of this. This should also help to elevate the level of play (knowing that there are more scouts observing them than before).......

Great post man, it's true that I worry about parking downtown but it's no problem once I get down there. I'll drive around for 5 minutes looking for a spot, if I'm picky and that's it tops. Just wanted you to know that there were 3 hecklers in section 107. It's also true that playing in a better venue would bring out the best in them. I'm sure it gives them a sense of pride and something more to play for. I know that I enjoy going to see them more in this new building and if it makes me take my family to see games and makes it more enjoyable, then I can only imagine that their experience would only be intensified 10x fold.

Yep..the amenities for scouts at the coliseum were basically none. Use your pass to enter the building for free and find an open spot in the balcony in an uncomfortable wooden seat. Now they get to go to the press level, access the "lounsbury" club lounge and have a staff member actually assigned to get them anything they may need.

The Wildcats have posted the prices for the Suite Rentals. 1 suite is 1675 + Tax for 25 people and the larger suite is 2000 + tax for 30 people. Food is not included & you have your own server. They also stock the fridge with beer and charge you for whatever you take like a hotel mini fridge. There's an unlimited popcorn option for $25.

I agree, I think they should have given it a proper name like the Save-on-Foods Center Dedicated to War Veterans Sports, Trade Show, Concert Facility and Victoria Sports Hall of Fame

Some glitches in the bus service after last Sunday's game:

Check bus schedule before going to Avenir Centre, says Codiac Transpo
Moncton Wildcats fans who expected to catch a bus after Sunday's game were disappointed

News like this will prompt some people to avoid a potentially spotty bus service in favour of driving to the Avenir Centre........

I took the bus after Saturday's game and it worked great. Was home within 10 minutes of the final buzzer

I'm sure.

The issue here is that some people took the bus to the Avenir Centre for the 4PM game on Sunday, but when the game was over (around 7PM), the bus service had terminated for the day (last bus at 6PM). These fans were stranded.

I think this is poor form and the city and the Wildcats should revisit this issue.

Totally agree.. the city/media has done nothing except promote taking the bus including extending service for the last Sunday game .. then all of a sudden it doesn't exist.. Extremely poor customer relations.. The nerve of the codiac people saying the customer should have read the schedule.. is like Bell saying didnt your read the * at the bottom that says your rates will double in 3 months

I have ridden the bus and for years and Codiac route planners seem to have 0 concept of customer service, or what works for riders. Sunday stores are open till 6pm.. buses should run till 8pm at least for workers to get home.
The union attitude at Codiac needs to be tossed in favour of a customer focused service model, instead of a what works for Codiac workers model.

This was a Big oppurtunity to show people that Bus Service is GReat and gain ridership potentially.. and they do something like this.. They gained a bunch of new firsttime riders..then do this.

It really irks me because i would love to use the bus system more..to be eco friendly, but until ridership goes up will not get the increase in service or routes to make it better.

I chuckled when I rad the article as I remember pointing that out that it could become an issue a couple of months ago.

If they cant even extend buses for 1-2 extra hour, could you imagine if a medium size event (under 6k) is happening on a Sunday...

I bet that SMG is reticent of booking events on a Sunday for this particular reason.

oh and btw....the Thank You Canada tour (which is selling really well) is on November 11th, which is on a Sunday AND Remembrance Day (Codiac is usually close on Holiday). Wonder if they have a plan for it, or will just let the people "check the website"

I have it on very good authority that the management of the Avenir Centre keeps an eye on the postings in this thread.

To that end, I have a helpful suggestion........

I was ay the box office at the Avenir Centre late this afternoon to purchase some tickets, and, since it was chilly out, the overhead heating unit in the box office lobby came on several times while I was talking to the ticket agent. The racket from the fan made it very difficult to carry on a conversation with the ticket agent. It might be worthwhile to see if there is some way to control the din. It would make the ticket buying experience a lot more pleasurable and efficient.

Just a thought.........

http://www.codiactranspo.ca/Information/Avenir_Center.htm They have it very clearly labelled when the buses are running and if you can catch one home or not isn't hard to find. They aren't going to keep the buses running longer for an event like a hockey game if the expected passengers are just a handful its a waste of money. Notice how for the UFC event they will run until the building is empty. Event goers need to take some responsibility in researching before they attend events.

With the stores closing at 5/6 sundays and walmart / grocerty stores open till 10 i dont think it would be a "waste" of money to keep green and blue lines running at the least till 8 with reduced runs(30mins) especially in the winter months when people dont like to walk... this isn't 1980 people do stuff on sundays. It was busy downtown sunday afternoon evening.

Public transit never makes money its a given, its a service, game goers pay tax too,

And traffic chaos ensues...........

Moncton has aspirations to become a "big city." It had better start thinking that way. We need a better transit system

They could at least get on the same level as CMA of similar sizes.

Most of them (Saint John, Guelph, Trois-Rivieres, St-John's, Saguenay) have a similar Sunday schedule (around 6-8PM), the difference is that they usually use the Sunday schedule on most Holiday (minus Christmas and New Year).

It's a vicious circle as the City wants people to use transit, but probably can't afford running empty buses/more routes and people are used to get in their car, because the bus schedule is not optimized

At least it seems to be way better than when I was there 11 years ago. Still remember waiting 1h at Highfield Square cuz I missed my transfer to get back to my dorm
