Most places don't have legal gambling like casinos. Hell, it was a fight to get casinos in Detroit of all places.

I hate like hell to throw any more tanker news on the fire (we really need to make a thread if it keeps on going)....but anyway hot off the wires,

From Reuters:

"The Pentagon also said it would give more credit for an aircraft's ability to offload fuel beyond the required amount, a decision that could favor the larger A330 plane offered by Northrop and its European subcontractor EADS, said the aides.

At the same time, the revised request for proposals will measure life cycle costs over 40 years not 25, which could help Boeing with its smaller 767 aircraft, they said."

From the AP:

"The Pentagon planned a briefing Wednesday afternoon to discuss the new selection process. The final version of the request for proposals is expected to be released to both companies on Aug. 15. The new bids are due Oct. 1 and a decision is expected by the end of the year. "

I proposed a seperate thread a while back, but it never went anywhere. I envisioned it being like the seperate one Huntsville had for the VW plant discussions...

I have asked where they got the information and they stated the mall management. I called LaSalle and they would not tell, but stated some competition is under way and that Bel-Air is trying to step up to the plate. Your thoughts please.

Hmmm so I assume they will be building the new mall in Saraland then. The last time I talked to Dow he told me they were deciding between Tillmans Corner or Saraland. I wish I could get my hands on more info about this retail centre. If this thing is going to be huge and nice like they say it will be then Bel- Air will have to bring the food court back after Target leaves and add a second level.

Bel Air Mall can't be retrofitted with a second level. Remember most of west Mobile is reclaimed swampland. It was nearly an act of Congress for Sears to add its second level back in '96/

What retailers would enter *this* market?

It would be easier to redevelop/demolish one of Bel Air's anchor stores INTO a multi-level retail space. JC Penney's nearly 200k square foot expanse could be gutted for a combination food court/bookstore/casual dining cluster (PF Chang's and Rousso's, anyone).

With a handful of exceptions, Mobile has never attracted higher-end retail. Compare our area lifestyle centers and malls to developments in B'ham, Huntsville and, yes, even Montgomery. Do you see a J. Crew, Harold's, or Banana Republic amongst our tenant listings? That probably won't change five years and 1 million more square feet down the road, either.

Now, if Bayer, Cousins, Simons or GGP developed and leased our regional centers and used their considerable connections with national retailers, there would be a lot less griping about quality of retail.

Why would you randomly "gut" a perfectly good, successful store like that just for something that is a fantasyland project?

*winces* don't say fantasyland, please. That's a sex toy store in Tuscaloosa.

JC Penney, in particular, is starting to leave its dated mall stores for modern, more convenient freetanding locations, like the upcoming store at Spanish Fort Town Center. JC Penney could easily sign on as an anchor for an open-air project in north Mobile County, leaving its Bel Air Mall store behind. If Target leaves the mall as well (they have mulled the idea), around 300k of retail space is left at Bel Air, ripe for redevelopment.

I guess Pottery Barn would be one of the exceptions. Wish we had one here in Montgomery...

While we are all sitting around here barking! I said earlier that Bel-Air has something up there sleeve, but they will not tell. I called La Salle to find out and they stated that new competition is coming to the market that would allow for redevelopment. One of my friends manages a store in Bel-Air and said the same thing. Most of the stores lease's are up and need to get out or resign at a higher price. Target should be out by next year.

Also, I talked to the manager of Legacy Village and he stated that they have a high-end furniture store on the way. I sure hope it is Z Gallerie.
