This is true, another tower is planned there, and the school may or may not be included.

Oh my God, this building is incredible, I cant even believe it. Did Art Gang Studio play a part in designing this incredible building? I was just wondering. Oh and does anyone know what the railing will look like? Or are they just going to put big caution signs warning everyone not to get close to the edge, cause Im afraid railings will kinda wreck the look of it all?

If you crave a pleasant architectural shock, head to the eastern edge of downtown Chicago and look up. There you'll find a skyscraper taking shape with projecting white balconies that curve in and out, startling in their irregularity. They ripple over the building's blue-green glass walls like a wave in motion, bringing the sensual style of the Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi to sober, right-angled Chicago.

The skyscraper is called Aqua, and when it is completed in early 2010, it will soar to a height of 82 stories — an exuberant exception to the banal cracker boxes around it. It took daring to pull off something like this, which is one of the adjectives people use to describe the skyscraper's architect, Jeanne Gang. Among the others: striking, visionary, pragmatic and ambitious.

A nice article and video. But "turf is secure?" Build that woman a pedestal already!

Also of note: "For good measure, Gang is among the architects brainstorming ideas with Chicago's Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for the planned Olympic Village as part of Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics."

I didn't know this, but I can only scream YES all 150 miles back to Chicago.

That video is really cool. It is refreshing to see just how excited the project makes Jeanne Gang. She is downright giddy while walking through the job site. You can only expect more great things from someone who is obviously passionate about what they do.

just wanted to restate how cool that video is. thanks for posting the link as it really captured some nice angles not seen before. My appreciation for the tower increased because of it.

Wow, pretty high praise from Kamin. I don't recall ever hearing him talk like that about any project. This one certainly deserves it.

Aqua is so weird; I love it and hate it. I think for me it's going to fall into the "I'm really glad they built it, but I don't like it" bin.

I am curious to see what they do with the balconies where the cantilevered slab becomes too small to use. That could look very odd.
