This building is amazing. At first I was sort of worried based on the renders. I suppose they were just too unrealistic. Very impressed so far.
Couldn't agree more. I thought that this one was just plain ugly from the renders. I would now put this one in my top 3. So incredibly simple but complex.

After all the work is done on the BCBS building, will it end up taller than Aqua? I'm curious if the view of the south/park will at all be visible from the higher units in Aqua.
On the 76th floor I'm guessing most of your view of the park directly south will be blocked, but from this link (http://www.lakeshoreeast.com/AQUA/views_70.html) that doesn't take the BCBS expansion into account it seems you will have a view of Pritzker Pavilion and the rest of the west side of Grant Park.. including South Michigan Avenue. You will probably be above the top of BCBS too which will be nice to not have it right in the way.
^ Rich, I think you'll get plenty of daylight and sky, but I doubt you'll be able to see much over the top of BCBS. But I agree that your unit will still be spectacular. Your view to the sides might be quite expansive.
Sometimes people are pleasantly surprised by how nice the view can be through buildings instead of just straight out. Good luck.

^^^ Not to mention, depending on where your unit is, the balcony may provide you with an expanded view, though that may not always be visible from inside your condo.
Appreciate the responses, Honte, Alliance and Down Under... I just found this site relatively recently and have learned a lot through this discussion/forum. When I got this unit, I had no idea that BCBS was expanding - reason why I was curious and had to ask.
Yeah, being on the 76th floor, you'll likely be above BCBS' roof. So, I'd guess that you'd be able to see out over it, but likely not down to the park as much. However, because of your SW corner, you can see from my pics that you'll have a view of Millennium Park. You actually probably have one of the best units in the building. The site between Aqua and BCBS will likely never be developed as orignally planed so you're good on that front and a lot of the Northern views will be blocked by 375 E. Wacker. But yeah, you'll probably have a good view to the South and a clear shot of the park between BCBS and Aon.
Rich, should Mandarin ever go though you may have your west (river) view obstructed as well. I'm surprised the sales agents at Lakeshore East didnt mentioned the BCBS expansion.

When I was in negotiations in acquiring the unit, all Leila Z. made mention of was the possibility of other (currently empty) sites around Aqua being developed at a later date and that these may or may not hinder certain views/exposures - but no, no mention of BCBS, of course.
rich, I happen to like views of buildings and so do many people also you will be above the BCBS building anyway in your unit. Is it just me or are Real Estate agents are like used car salsmen, this real estate crisis should weed out the Larry's from Three's Company, haha ME TV.
Rich, one other thing - my understanding is that there is currently a plan to build a tower immediately to the south of Aqua, above the planned school. I dont think there is any timeline. The head of the sales team (her name escapes me now) told me this about a month ago (and also when the building was first marketed in 2006). However, as honte suggested, this may not "ruin" your view, but may just change it.

That's different. First it was a tower, then it was a school, and now it's a school AND a tower?
I guess we'll have to wait and see. But I imagine Arquetectonica would be well underway before we saw even a hint of activity on the "Aqua2" site.
not sure how I feel about this tower yet. we'll see how it finishes off but this tower can look anywhere from really nice to just plain silly.
I always think back to Gang's original mission to create something that is different from every angle. The variation doesn't push that concept enough to accomplish that from one face of the building to the next. Maybe the development team killed that idea or dumbed it down.
I also think back to Gang's comments that she wished to use colored panels of glass or something on the balconies. That idea was killed by the developer. Too bad really as I think if done properly, color texture could be a nice addition to the building and area.
