Yes agreed. Hopefully the newly acquired Grovesnor property will include a hotel development.. It's a good spot there right next to the mall.

Or rather, it's a bit closer to the Gilmore and Canada Way tech offices than Metrotown.

Looks someone out in North Burnaby wanted to level out their backyard and had a huge retaining wall failure today.

Quote:

At least six homes were evacuated Thursday after a landslide in a North Burnaby neighbourhood.

The slide occurred near the Barnet Highway, and happened after the retaining wall of a property in the 7300-block of Braeside Drive gave way around 8:30 a.m., according to Burnaby manager of work operations Brian Carter.

Aerial footage shows an area that appears to be under construction at the property where the slide originated.

Me and my dad are doing bets on what APEG is going to do to the dude who rubberstamped the retaining wall. It's only a few months old.

They changed the name. It's called EGBC now. Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

The recent spate of heavy downpour must have trapped all the water within the confines of the wall, making the ground above it a lot heavier than it normally is. Perhaps they forgot to design drain pipes and outlets for all that water.

The former Microtel site is up for sale again:

Consistent with the failed sale that was the subject of this lawsuit:

From Trish Jewison twitter Jan 25th, 2020:

Really shows that the Staples / Executive Inn / Steve Nash area is a mish-mash of parking lots.
Also, how the density at Gilmore Station will contrast with the tower spacing at Tandem and OMA.
You can also see that the Aoyuan Brentwood project isn't too far from Brentwood Station.

Great photo! The change that has occurred in this area since I regularly went through it en route to SFU in the mid-2000s is just remarkable.

This is what progress looks like: thanks for posting this Officedweller! Best thing is that we are only seeing the tip of the ice berg in what's to come here.

It still looks like a real estate project.

Hopefully, it will soon start to feel like a neighbourhood.

Definitely, there are still road boulevards, sidewalks and lots that are not properly tied into the area to become a cohesive commercial/mixed use urban neighbourhood. The area is still interspersed with industrial and other rundown lots. However, there are areas which already feel very urban. Great neighbourhoods have to start from somewhere, and Brentwood today has come a long way from what it was not too long ago. The sheer number of developers choosing to park their finances in a relatively new area is already a big achievement. I think the development tipping point has been achieved, with the current buildings and ones currently under construction joining in the fray to serve as catalysts for more to fill up the vacant or low-density lots.

I am looking forward to a huge developer doing something amazing at the corner lot of Willingdon and Lougheed: now an Auto retail centre. There are just so many possibilities of what can happen over there, and the anticipation itself is nothing but a thrill. A themed urban development would complement Brentwood mall nicely, such as this Zaandam development in Amsterdam:

Yes, this is the perfect spot for the apex of the skyline with something really cool and really tall (220-240m, but not substantially taller than the other towers). This property better be home to the future tallest tower of the Brentwood area.

Anyone concerned that there's no "public" park space in the Brentwood area plan besides a future area where Juneau St is. Now there's open space, but it's on private land some plaza space is a City ROW built by the developer.

Is Burnaby still banking community amenity money and not planning to build it in its most dense areas? Is Brentwood just going to feed of Confederation Park / Brentwood Park ' Kensignton amenities?

True for now, unless you consider the cemetery as a "themed park with tombstones".

Well, the Concord Brentwood development is supposed to come with parklands.

Ah okok appreciate it. I didn't know a real urban park would be there having not seen a plan... just a "reserved for future park and school site". Wasn't sure if it would eventually become just a school and it's associated playground or "gravel pit soccer field".

Usually concerned with what's a public park and a private semi-public greenspace. That's slightly re-assuring for the anticipate urban growth of the area. Though I believe that was the only publicly identified area in the town centre plan.
