Great shot!

It sure will be nice when they are able to remove the viaducts and straighten out that horrible curve on Georgia St.

Great photo!

Really don't like how the casino is hugging BC Place like that. Love the grove of trees that used to sit on the slope over there. Also a tall narrow tower for Marriott would also allow more of BC Place stadium view to be preserved, as it is such a jewel after the major reno work done to it.

I think that the remaining trees by the stadium will also be chopped down once they start building the ramp from Georgia street down to Pacific Blvd just before the removal of the viaducts, as I remember seeing the proposed terraced walkway adjacent to the ramp.

Wow I agree with Vin. I'll have to mark down this moment in history.

I think Pavco's noise about not being consulted on the viaducts plan is about that corner of space. Whether or not they want the trees or just want to be compensated, I'm not sure.

I think access to BC Place is important, and hope that's properly maintained on all sides by this development and the viaducts change in the future.

Can't wait until the foreground in this picture and Plaza of Nations is redeveloped.

I would expect them to disappear.

BTW - there was an article in the paper last week that Westbank hired a former PAVCo exec as a lobbyist regarding Westbank's bid to purchase the 10C parcel at the SE corner of BC Palce (grove fo trees) which is slated for office development (though if Westbank gets the site, it may end up mixed use given the distance from the office core).

Reminder of what is planned for Parcel 10C and the Georgia Ramp:

That's where the Georgia Steps would have been located.
The Staff Report notes that the underground parking for PavCo's future office/mixed use tower on Area 10C
will have to be built in conjunction with the Georgia St. Ramp, since the parking will be located UNDER the new ramp.

The Staff Report also states that in order to allow a smaller footprint for the tower - to open up plaza space -
the height of the Area 10C tower will be relaxed (raised), but only up to the applicable view cone.
I think that's the same height as the Rogers Arena West Building.

There's also a small commercial building between the new ramp and Griffiths Way.

Pic of the Georgia Ramp looking towards Science World from the Technical Findings Presentation.

I think the rendering starts at Citadel Parade (traffic light @ Spectrum condos).
I'm not sure how the grade separation between the existing sidewalk fronting the Spectrum townhouses
and the ramp dropping to Pacific Blvd. will look. Not sure if the "gap" will be blocked off or be an open gap.

On the BC Place side, the "gap" seems to be closed with staircases up or down to the BC Place concourse, as necessary.

Westbank's new tower over the Central Heating plant is off the pic to the lower right.

I could see the ramp being closed to traffic during arena and stadium exit periods.
There may be an opportunity to make this into a "Fan Zone" area (although the Spectrum townhouses would complain).

Thanks!

Interesting that they have round columns in the lobby and public spaces and square columns the levels above.

I wonder if it's because the round columns will be exposed and the other covered up? Is there a cost difference between round and square columns? Any structural differences as well?

Which floor is that with the round columns?

In the plans they have a cafe, engineering, employee lockers, restaurant lounges on "ground floor plan"

That's my guess too - I figure the round ones will be exposed in open modern lobby areas, and the square ones will either be hidden in walls or more formally dressed up with wood panelling or drywall.

Doesn't seem to be structural differences - one column at Smithe & Pacific has a transfer beam, but none of the others have any transition structure when then change - they're just aligned.

************

You can tell they're moving fast on this because they've already started installing steel for the façade walls.

Round columns at entrance from BC Place concourse (could be exterior columns?) and 2 lobby / restaurant levels at Smithe & Pacific (which looks different (not as pointy) than on the plans Jollyburger posted):

I guess the renderings might not be 100% either, but FWIW.

Thanks.
That makes sense to have round columns if they will be on the exterior as part of a colonnade
(and for consistency, adjacent interior ones are round too)

A couple of quick shots from the stadium concourse today. The new yellow luffing crane is complete now right in the middle of things.

Thanks!

Strange - non-structural column on the left side of this shot.
Would have been nicer aesthetically if the column on the right were the same diameter as the other two.

On the left side of this shot, the building will be on tall supports to allow the future emergency access stairs to pass below the building overhang.

Just noticed the curved floorplate protrusion in that last shot.
That seems to depart from the flat facades on the renderings.
Could be for a balcony I guess (?)

Parq Vancouver Reaches New Heights

Quote:
Progress has been moving along nicely at the site of Parq Vancouver, the 800,000-square-foot casino, hotel, and spa that is currently rising adjacent to BC Place in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Since our last update, the structure has risen substantially above ground level, making the size and scope of the new development clearly visible in context with the adjacent BC Place.

Looks like it was reconfigured so the north and south meeting rooms/ballroom get windows.
Previously, every room was an interior room surrounded by pre-function space.
I assume the atrium will extend into the pre-function space (escalators aren't shown either, but I assume they'll be there to entice people to the casino).
