Austin has been on a roll lately with all of the new additions to its central area--quite an amazing little boom. This is one of my favorite designs of the taller ones; it seems to have a little more visual aspiration than some of the other towers going up.

Love the year end photos and I'm happy to see that the mural (visible in the first photo) that used to be on the side of Tesoro's facing the parking lot was saved. I wondered what was going to happen to it.

Of that project, by T. Stacey, with the tall tower, shorter office building, and parking garage, I think the parking garage is probably the only thing we'll see in the near future.

I saw it recently while on vacation. It looks great, it will make a great addition to the skyline.

does anyone know anything as far a the crowns lighting goes? I have a feeling it will be a nice compliment to the frost tower.

The Austonian is like a rounded version of frost

Wow, I forgot about my crude little photoshop. This has to be from around 2 years ago. The Ashton approximation from S Congress doesnt look that far off (in height/placement/scale) compared to how it turned out in reality. The Austonian will appear a bit more narrow from that angle, but height should be close. As for the W-Hotel/Residences, it will appear taller (and perhaps wider) from that angle, and it won't have that Purple Grimace-color either

Regarding the 700ft tower... As mentioned, its a ways off, but not dead either.

And it's almost all residential. I remember about 4-5 years ago, when walking downtown with my ex-girlfriend, who was from San Francisco, and she was complaining about Austin's downtown. "No one lives here. They work here then leave. It's dead. You really need people living downtown." It's already changed a lot since then. In another 2-3 years, things should be quite different downtown.
