You know it's funny, I've been following this development for years and I just realized this!

I'm so glad they decided to do that. Modern stadiums take up multiple city blocks. When you're looking at an aerial view of Detroit, Ford Field and Comerica Park take up a lot of space. Their exteriors are nice, but don't fit in as well with the local architecture the way that LCA will.

I also remember reading somewhere that there was a conscious attempt to reflect several construction methods and styles that are representative of historic development in Detroit. Sort of like a life-size timeline of building trends. Turn of the century, art-deco, and 'modern' facades are all represented here.

The logo atop the stadium. 243 feet in size.

People are actually upset about this (not because they think it's ugly or tacky), but many people actually believed it was going to be the Red Wings logo as shown in early renderings. To be fair, that was way before they even decided on the final designs of the building let alone the name of the building, the naming rights, and even before the Pistons decided to join in.

Here's an updated aerial view of the site, from LCA's Facebook page.

Also, does anybody know whether or not Olympia plans to build two parking garages right in front of Comerica Park? There are to structures are the District Detroit renderings that would supposedly sit in those two empty lots between St. John's and United Methodist Church.

Two apartment buildings are planned for there but no timeline on when exactly they will be built.

This turned out really well.

Anyway, I'll be really happy when they begin building along Clifford and Cass, downtown. This view always shows how much further downtown still has to go, and I've been a bit impatient with why there is so little development going into that area particularly as small developers start to get priced out of developing along Woodward. Seems to me this corner of downtown would be perfect for a quiet mid-rise residential district.

The interior looks incredible. One of the best arena interiors I've seen. Especially with all that natural daylighting.

Agreed. And as for the giant pizza man, I also think it's abysmal, but it's a reality of the times (corporate branding), and fortunately not something that will visibly mar the experience of the average visitor to the area.

The west side plaza is expected to be used for outdoor events.

The scoreboard is finished. The largest in the NHL so far.

Wow that's a great skyline shot. So many beautiful old highrises. Love seeing the continued redevelopment/renaissance of downtown Detroit. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a Redwings game there in the future. Even if I don't, I grew up a Tigers fan and catch a game at Comerica every now & then with my family, so I look forward to that entire area continuing to improve.

In terms of density, the skyline has always looked a little naked once you hit Greektown. The BCBS Tower and the Greektown Casino Hotel make it a little less uneven, but it's too bad Gilbert's new tower couldn't balance out the skyline a little more.

Outside of that, the view of downtown looking south on Woodward is fantastic!
