So who has toured around the activated alleyway in the dairy Block on Blake and 18th? It’s very well done and the first question most people have is why we can’t do that to more alleyways throuout Denver. If the choice was to get a new 600’ skyscraper or have 20 additional alleyways cleaned up like this; I’d probably opt for the alleyways. Very cool. I would hope all the properties within LoDo look at privatizing their respective spaces and create areas to enjoy the historic buildings hidden away from the auto traffic.

The activated alleyway in RiNo between 26th and 27th west of Larimer is a winner, too. I would love to see that extended 10 blocks north so that everyone can enjoy the art along the way during the Crush festival. That would be a great destination for Denver tourists.

I love that project. Will be interesting to see how much additional traffic it brings to that area, especially this summer. And I agree, a few more like it could be pretty amazing.

Here's a nice preview of the alley. http://diningout.com/denverboulder/welcome-to-dairy-block/

Also, once the Rockies megaplex across the street is fully developed, LoDo as an entertainment center - stretching from Platte Street through Riverfront and both sides of Union Station is really going to be something special.

Not ignorant. They usually don't update the map until the project moves beyond the conceptual phase to being more real or in most cases imminent. Best bet is to figure out who the architect or developer is and ask for more info.

Market St. Station will have similar activation of the "alley".

I was there today (dairy block) it’s really neat and I like the concept. I think it’d be amazing if the other blocks parallel to Blake street followed suit. You could easily turn this area into a premier pedestrian mall, as it already feels like a miniature one.

I found THIS.
Quote:
Following City Council approval of the design contract [with Fentress], the City will begin the process of choosing a builder for the expansion project, with that selection expected in late 2018.
Looks like it's Fentress and Trammell Crow

Exactly; there is the opportunity for a world class pedestrian mall already in place within our downtown alleys. Just looking at LoDo between 14th and 20th and taking into account:

Larimer
Market
Walnut
Blake
Wazee
Wynkoop

There are 30 alleys that are in play. Imagine how much more valuable those businesses in LoDo could be if they had access to consumers wandering around the front and the back of their stores/restaurants. It would be a massive draw for the city and shift the paradigm for what an urban center should be. We're talking about a mini "Las Ramblas" of Barcelona.

It does have a European feel. Paris converted the majority of their alleyways to
retail and restaurants...It also creates a better view for those who live off of and face these alleyways.

We need to approach all of the big developers with this idea in hopes that one of them bites haha.

It seems that this project, which presumably would become the new tallest, has a significantly stronger chance of being built than 650 17th. I'd be very interested to see a rendering whenever one becomes available.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I suppose they won't be adding any spires or any other non-inhabited architectural features with 61 stories and 650 feet to work with.

Dope, I'm hoping we get our first world class hotel to kick off construction in line with this expansion.

They’ve also thrown out a $250m construction figure. Don’t get your hopes up of something stunning.
