One is 9-blocks long and will never have a connection to any active mass transit, and the other is many miles long and will have light rail running through it. They might be similar in some ways, but "basically the same," no way.

This is is a really good sign. I always viewed this area as just kinda a dead area, but its good to see they have some pretty grand plans for the area. Just hope they end up working out like theyre planning.

Hey forum, I have something other than self gratifying snarkiness for a change. How is Novare doing? I've heard two things recently.

First I heard that Novare doesn't plan on transferring control of the association to the residents of Viewpoint until 75% of the complete 3 building project is sold rather than just 75% of tower 1 as I understood.

Second, I heard Novare had to let the bank take Viewpoint and are essentially finished.

After just coming home from a visit to Chicago and a trip through Union Station, I don't see how Atlanta can afford not to do this. To have a central hub for all transit to flow out of seems the best scenario for the city. MARTA, Amtrak, Greyhound, taxi service, street car, etc... Not too mention the wealth of existing rail lines under the city. I can't image there is any other rail line near the city that wouldn't feed into one of the existing rail lines near the Gulch/Five Points. And now with the talk of the Brain Train and high speed rail throughout the SouthEast, this could be a large win-win for Atlanta.

I completely understand that it will take a lot to redevelop that area. But it is directly on Atlanta's signature street Peachtree, close to the majority of attractions in the downtown area (COP, Philips, Dome, Aquarium), close to a large universitiy in GA State, and has such other large potential with areas such as the existing underground, the government district, and Woodruff Park.

Add 1 more penny to the already 1 penny tax I pay for MARTA and I'm all in!

EDIT: Two more comments.
1) I haven't seen this link before so I thought it would shed some light (http://www.atlantadowntown.com/initiatives/green-line-plan/multi-modal-passenger-terminal)
2) I'm saying it here and now for the record. When and if this is completed, the name of the terminal needs to be TERMINUS. This is the best, most historic and iconic Atlanta name that could be used for a multimodal terminal such as this.

Totally agreed. I have this fairly romantic idea that the new terminal station should be called "terminal station" and should be modelled around the original terminal station which got knocked down not so long ago.

Yes thats such a great idea. Atlanta seems as if its a relatively new movie compared to other cities, so it needs to maximize on the history where it can

While I think the name sounds cool, I do think "Terminus" (which kind of means "the end") is an odd name of what would be the most connected, accessable, multi-route station

Hey I don't know how many people on this forum venture down to Ivan Allen on a Saturday night but that area is live! From the street level you can hear the music jamming from the pool at the W. It's going to be interesting to see how Centennial Park as a whole develops in the coming years, it's off to a good start.

That's the boombox of one the 3 people who live at the W.

Actually I like that area. I wish there wasn't that dead zone between Midtown and that area.

LOL, I very sure it was coming from DJ's in the pool area as I was there, but the music really brings the street level to life. I feel ya about that dead zone though, we have the Connector to thank for that.

And, the HOMELESS SHELTER that doubles as a drug haven, which prevents developers from investing millions into an area that is dying (pun intended) for highrise development... But, hopefully, the "center" will be closing soon

If demand increases I'm sure they'll tear it down. With that being said, the shelter on Ivan is well ran, unlike the one on Pine. I think people in Atlanta have to get over their phobias about homeless people, they're in every major US city. Believe it or not Atlanta isn't that bad, it's just apart of being in the city.

There's no reason to be afraid of homeless people agree, and I think it's great that there are shelters out there that -- helpful or not -- make things a little easier for the less fortunate. However, I think there is no reason for these shelters to be in areas otherwise posed for radical gentrification. It's like the city is choosing to engage foot shooting mode by not solving this issue. Why have these shelters right in the center?

You have to keep in mind they were there first, so in this instance we'll have to let the free market decide what's best for that area.

Even with the homeless shelter location, I wouldn't call the area with Emory Midtown a "dead zone". Having spent a lot of time there the past couple of years, the hospital gives it more street life than many other areas.
