On Saturday The Great Scaper brought me to a friend's place in the James Bay neighbourhood of Victoria (adjacent to downtown) and we were able to get some good photos of the area, across to Songhees and a bit of the downtown. Great view of the new Telus Ocean office building going up.

Great pics, and I love Telus Ocean!

What really sets projects in Victoria apart is the public realm / landscaping on the ground.

It looks like AI upscaling, some phone cameras are doing that now. Usually you can turn it off in the settings somewhere, I know I would. Just as bad as newer TVs doing frame interpolation to make 24 fps tv seem like 60 fps, just makes it look like junk.

Perhaps a bit reminiscent of Av 9 de Julio? Not a lot, but maybe a tiny bit?

I'm surprised that's the part that stuck in your mind.

It is grim. They have a parking lot instead of a yard. They go on their back balconies and they have a nice view of cars farting out toxic gases instead of places to have bbqs or kids playing.

The inside looks just as bad. It's cramped although not as cramped as other units in the GTA. Cramped is cramped. It's really cheap looking. The least the developer could do is recessed lighting and pendants over the island than bulk 3 dollar light throughout the main floor. $710,000 for this in suburban Kitchener is fucked up.

I don't think we can say "cramped is cramped" as a universal. It really is relative to the person and situation. It depends on how many people live there, how much time they spend at home (do they work from home or just sleep there?), what they use the home for, and their personality. There are lots of cases when it's silly for someone to have a larger home if they spend most of their time out and only use the place to shower and sleep or watch TV.

But I agree about the site. There's enough space there to provide those townhouses with a nice backyard with room for a little garden and everything. But instead it's a bunch of pavement.
