That's just the thing, the guys getting paid to render these concepts are usually engineers, not architectects. They understand how to make a building stand, but not how to make one look halfway decent.

Brittain Dining Hall! It was all-you-can-eat; an important part of your Freshman 15 at GT.

East Campus has some great old buildings. I wish the newer dorms were as classically attractive.

Take a look at the architect firm's website. Everything they've designed looks like absolute shit and the quality of their renderings are pathetic.

Not quite the Olympics....

But this could provide a hell of pump primer, particularly in the Centennial Olympic Park area:http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2010/05/10/daily29.html

US will have a tough time beating out all of the European bids for the 2018 World Cup (England, Russia, Belgium/Netherlands, and Spain/Portugal). If a European nation got the '18 Cup, it would be down to US, Australia, Japan, Qatar, and South Korea for 2022. I like our chances much better against that group.

Of the 20 other stadiums vying to be one of the host venues, many are nicer, newer, larger, and outdoors. GA Dome will need some help. Would having the broadcast headquarters in Atlanta help secure the GA Dome as a host venue? Or would they intentionally put the broadcast hq in a city that they don't expect to host any matches?

I think there will be a new Georgia Dome or stadium downtown by the time the World Cup arrives. I would hope that a 'soccer configuration' is part of the design. ps - the state recently passed an extension of the hotel/motel sales tax that pretty much assures the Falcons new digs will be downtown.

It is inevitible that the Falcons will have a new stadium and I know Blank has said he prefers to keep it in the downtown core. Whether that means bulldozing the Dome and putting up a new facility, putting up a new outdoor stadium right next to it, or finding a different site all together, it is going to happen. The bonds are paid off around 2013-2014, in plenty of time for a new Falcons stadium (i.e. and soccer stadium) in 2018+.

I hope it stays downtown. I think a new site across the street where that school and low income housing is would be a perfect spot. Then bulldoze the old stadium and extend the GWCC with new meeting space in that area.

Something tells me the GWCC won't be expanding any time soon given they can't book the place because conferences are scaling back. 2012/2013 bookings for the buildings are at an all time low already...

I hope they face out building A to have a better presence on Marietta... at least that area has some pedestrian presence beyond the walls of the Authority.

Task Force for the Homeless fights possible eviction
Creative Loafing - Scott Henry (May 10, 2010)

Facing eviction yet again after losing ownership of its longtime home last week, the city's largest and most contentious homeless shelter looks to be gearing up for a standoff against city officials and business leaders whom its outspoken founder calls "not necessarily honorable people."

After months of mortgage brinksmanship, the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless was foreclosed upon May 3 by Ichthus Community Trust, an apparent shell corporation controlled by Norcross-based commercial developer Manny Fialkow. Ichthus had bought two outstanding liens totaling $900,000 on the 100,000-square-foot building at the corner of Peachtree and Pine streets for an undisclosed sum in January.

I heard the opposite from some people that work there, maybe they're getting positive info to keep them from finding other jobs? But that wouldn't happen until a new stadium was built, so we're talking 2016 best case scenario? So when you say the GWCC wont be expanding any time soon you're correct because they won't even have the option to for another 6 years.

"Task Force for the Homeless fights possible eviction"

The people that run this place have nobody to blame but themselves. They turned down an offer of 2 mil!? What were they thinking? I hope when they go to court the judge makes Anita pay the legal bills and it bankrupts her. Is this the most current info on the story, if I were more connected I'd throw up a blog about topic like since I think a lot of people are interested in this.
