i doubt cokes moving anything especially since big wigs at the company have been quoted as saying coke north america has no plans of being into distribution/bottling for the long term.

From a July 2009 article:

"The city's new program would start with 20 kiosks around Woodruff Park, and then expand to Five Points, Centennial Park, the hotel district, Midtown and Turner Field, according to city official David Edwards. The first stage would be a total of 40 locations downtown, chosen according to advertising accessibility."

You mean which counties are involved? It would be the region covered by the ARC. And it would give them some teeth over transportation money.

Yes....I am wondering why anyone in far flung counties would tax themselves for the beltline? I really would like to see it move forward....

I disagree, this is a tax increase for regions that vote for it and get to keep it. It's additional tax funding on top of what's already being taxed. So the tax money that's currently being collected in metro Atlanta and given to the rest of the state will still be taxed in Atlanta and given to the rest of the state. Atlanta will probably still be a donor.

Well, transportation spending in the state has been anemic for several years now and will likely NEVER be what it was in the early 2000's. This regional tax will boost the areas that vote for it. Unfortunately for the Waycross's of GA, there isn't enough sales tax revenue to make a dent.

But you bring up a good point...I do wonder what will happen with the current application of spending. Obviously the vast majority of tax revenues are collected in the metro area, but allocated around the state. Will more be allocated elsewhere if ATL metro residents vote for the additional tax? That would be sort of a kick in the pants if it goes down like that.

Back in town for the weekend - and I had a question about two particular developments:

1) What is going on with the public library building across from the High Museum (16th and Peachtree)? It is currently...well....taken apart.

2) What is the new building adjacent to the southbound off-ramp on 75/85 to 10th/14th/17th St? It is between 16th and 17th St, and has a huge "11" on the side of it.

I think this is the new fire station they're building. There was going to be a 20+ story residential building at one time but the Home Park NIMBY's killed it.

itd be better if the window frames werent red. for some reason that drives me nuts. what is up with atlanta and a [relative] lack of classy development?

Well you have to wonder who in tarnation came up with that dang thing. Seems like if a man is getting paid big money by the government to do a drawing he could come up with something better than that.
